Very interested in seeing the Ponds Simon Figueroa Heron Clark lineup.

I'd swap LJ for Dixon.

Big size difference

You need to be able to handle and distribute the ball before size even matters.

Going without conventional big men only works if you can hurt the other team off the bounce. Look at Nova, Quinerly and Gillsespie would be a huge net positive off the bounce against that lineup. Wright always has at least two dominant ball-handlers who can consistently make good decisions.

Ponds and Dixon is our only chance at matching that...then factor in Heron being defend by a three, Simon being defended by a four, and Clark being defended by a five and we can really cause some problems.

Of course we are better with Herron but the drop off when considering the totality of team production will be minimal.  Dixon Williams and Trimble can all score, the question is primarily defense and I am unsure of Herrons defensive capability.

We’ll see, but based on what’s happened so far (meaning past seasons) Heron is an elite talent. The drop off is not minimal. It’s significant.

Heron put up 16+ in the SEC. Dixon did it in the MAAC. Big difference.

With Trimble, we first have to see if he’s improved, and specifically, how much.

If we are counting on Williams to be a key contributor, we are in deep shit.

The totality of team production? By that same logic the Cavs will not miss Lebron much due to the totality of production from Jeff Green, Rodney Hood, and Kyle Korver. See how ridiculous that sounds?

I like the lineup with Dixon and look forward to seeing it, just pointing out there is a significant difference between having Dixon at the 2 or having one of Simon/heron/LJ at the 2.

I like Dixon coming off the bench for an offensive spark. I believe Heron and LJ's ball handling is good enough to allow that to happen. If you play Simon at the four, that would give us decent ball handlers at the wings with size and athleticism.

I'm interested to see how Ponds plays with another Alpha.

With Heron I think we are top 25 caliber without him I think we are a bubble team. I think we have more weapons this year to make a run without Heron but it will be a big drop off. Heron is an all big east first team player, hard to say there won’t be a drop off without him

LJ has one year of JUCO ball. He is a shooter and he's not a great athlete from what I can tell. Dixon would dribble circles around him.

It's amazing how much this team has improved if you only read this message board and never watched the actual games. Big year for Mullin. Let's see if he delivers.

A 9th place team is more than one player away. LJ, Dixon, Keita, Williams, Earlington, Roberts are all important because the team only has returning 4 players.

I was being a tad hyperbolic, but if Ponds is the best player in the BE, and he is, arguably, and Heron is better than Ponds, then Heron is the best player in the BE and the pair of them comprise the best back court in the country. It's not unfeasible that the best back court in the country goes to the final four.

That said, I'm not holding my breath for NC run.

Ponds was 1st Team All-Big East and Honorable Mention All-American last year and is the preseason Big East POY and preseason 1st Team All-American. If Heron is better than that we would have the best 1-2 punch in the country and arguably program history. A Final Four would be in order. What is the problem with that thinking?
