By Friday Rutgers will be built up like they are the golden state warriors. Not sure if they have won 5 total conference games in 3 years.

No they won't.  Everybody here knows that Rutgers is a sh*t basketball program just like St. John's.

However, their early returns of stomping 2 D1 teams into oblivion including one from a decent Colonial conference while hitting a zillion threes is impressive and will be noted as such.

I'll be pleasantly shocked if we pull out a W here with no center.

You’ll be shocked if we beat Rutgers?

Yes.

In all seriousness I don’t understand how beating Rutgers could be shocking to a St.John’s fan.

We own them.

I also find the bikini quite shocking.

After five games we are going to have a top 25-50 SOS and we still have Princeton, @Duke, and a neutral court game with Ga Tech left.

If you count Temple/VCU we have at least 24 games against high majors and 15 of them are away from home. #thatsnoteasy
Top 25-50 SOS after 5?  I love the optimism, but I must have missed part of this conversation.  Using Kenpom rankings (because that's the window I have open right now) we're currently at 252 SOS.  I don't see how games @119, semi-home vs 173, and home vs 337 will somehow jump us up over 200 spots in SOS.  FWIW, BPI has our current SOS at 269.

"Semi-home" is a KenPom construct, and you are missing the second game in the legends classic.  @119, neutral for 173 and neutral for 83 or 126 will round out our first five games.

Marillac probably overshoots it but he isn't that far off.
Through 5 games, our SOS has gone from 269 (BPI) 252 (KP), to 242 (BPI) and 229 (KP).

Could have definitely used Temple who is still 33 spots higher than VCU after losing to them.

You are not using the Marillac SJU math.

Lol, in the imaginary world of the 5 game RPI where VCU is #35 and we are #6, we have a top 50 schedule.  I think this just furthers the point of too early to count purely results based rankings.
KP has our SOS at 315, BPI has it at 265.  FWIW our Strength of Record on BPI is 18th.

My point was very narrow on this. After 5 games we would be top 25-50 SOS. That is the case for models that only quantify what has happened this season.

After the Ga Tech game our SOS will get hammered games 8-12 before the start of conference play, but we have the game @Duke to bring it back.

Overall, I believe this schedule is damn near perfect for the team we have. SOS and metrics like the NET just won't be a problem for us in the Big East and playing away from home as often as we do each season. Wins will be the only hurdle.
