Pointer is a 6'5'' kid who wanted to make the pros as a guard.  What the hell are you talking about.

And here's 2015 NBA draft combine:

Stanley Johnson 6'5 241.8 lbs
Justin Anderson 6'5 230.8 lbs
Brandon Ashley 6'7 228 lbs
Pat Connaughton 6'4 215 lbs
Branden Dawson 6'5 230.2 lbs
Trevon Graham 6'4 219.4 lbs
Andrew Harrison 6'4 213.2 lbs
San Dekker 6'7 218.6 lbs
Terran Peteway 6'4 209.2 lbs
Justise Winslow 6'4 221.8

Marillac, I think you have a great point about size.I saw Mustapha play in high school and Auburn definitely put some pounds on him. The NBA folks told Shamorie he had to get stronger. If we are to get kids to the next level, it needs to be a focal point of their off-season workouts. Not saying it isn't, just saying it has to be. Either way, Mustapha and Shamorie, I hope, will lead by example as both of them are pretty close to getting to the next level. If they get there, the weight room will have certainly played a role.

Kawhi Leonard 6'6 227.4 lbs
Iman Shimpert 6'4 221.8 lbs
Kyle Singler 6'7 228 lbs
Jimmy Butler 6'6 222.2 lbs
David Lighty 6'4 216.2 lbs
Charles Jenkins 6'1 216.4 lbs
Kenneth Faried 6'6 224.6
Tobias Harris 6'6 222 lbs
Derick Williams 6'7 248.4 lbs

Tobias Harris is only 6ft6 ? Holy crap. He was in my office a few years ago and he seemed taller and I'm 6ft4. I figured he was 6ft9 or something

Moreso only selecting the players that fit his arguements, ans not guys like klay Thompson who weighed in at 205 and marshan Brooks at 194

Klay Thompson went to a low major. Do you want Western Carolina's strength and conditioning program? Marathon Brooks was way to skinny and weak and that ultimately killed his chances. Cooley only had him briefly if at all. Brooks also had real skills...Pointer and Simon do not. Therefore they only stand to improve defense and rebounding by adding strength.

You only have so much control over the level of talent you bring in, but you have damn near full control over how strong and conditioned your players become. When I was a kid I remember the announcers talking about Notre Dame putting a skinny freshman center on a 6,000 calorie a day diet to bulk him up.

We can't afford 6,000 calorie a day diets.

You are correct. I've made this mistake more than once I suspect. Kevin Martin is who I'm confusing Thompson with. He was the #26 overall pick from Western Carolina.

I don’t get it.  Strength training for these basketball players shouldn’t be such a mystery.   Lift a lot of weights, eat a ton, track your progress.  All throughout even high school, we spent a ton of time in the weight room.  At least 8-10 guys including myself could bench press over 350 lbs, several over 400 and squat even more as 17 year olds.  Even the “hard-gainers” like these kids playing b-ball got real strong and gained weight.  It certainly takes more work for some of them, but strength training isn’t really a mystery.

I hope most of you know that the basketball program has a brand new Strength & Conditioning coach. He just joined the program for this year.

So-so resume. Ideally you want experience with football. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now. I'd like to see added strength and weight as a top down mandate like it was under Calhoun at Uconn.

It doesn't hurt to add guys like Caraher and Steele who will hopefully positively impact the guys around them.

Ideally you want a guy that's able to administer the juice and avoid detection. Yeah, you're right - that's a football guy.
