Back to our scoring ways. I do think that we'll have trouble containing Femi, Paul Reed and Jalen Butz on the glass however. DePaul's first 6 is very tall and lengthy, as big as we've seen this year, have to keep Max/Cain cold. By the end of the night the sellout crowd and our scoring prowess is too much, but I expect a fight.

Some stats about DePaul:

- They turn it over more than average
- They are 84th in the country in offensive rebounding percentage (but were kept off the offensive glass by Xavier + Seton Hall)
- They are very good at making 2s and very bad at making 3s

- They are an excellent defensive rebounding team (doesn't impact us much as we don't crash the offensive glass)
- They don't foul often
- They give up a TON of 3s

I expect Keita to play a good amount in this game especially if DePaul rolls with both Butz and Olujobi on the floor at the same time. Williams should get some burn too at home.

What is it with you and the number 18? That's 3 straight games you've picked us to win by 18.

If DePaul plays those two together we will run them out of the gym. Olujobi looks goofy...Ponds isn't kind to goofy bigs.

I agree. I'd prefer that they play both at the same time. I've watched Dave Leitao coach for years, if it's dumb he'll do it

Paul Reed is not a goofy big, he's going to give us fits.

St. John's will be honoring Solly Walker our first African-American player in a pregame ceremony. Dr. Walker was also a recipient of the Joe Lapchick Character Award  this past September. Mel Davis presented the award to Solly's family. He recalled what a great influence he was in his life, as well as their shared background as alums of Boys High and St. John's. Mel also noted Dr. Walker's post basketball life as educator and mentor to him and many other men and women. I'm hoping to see Mel be part of this ceremony Saturday night.

For the ignoramuses among you, Jean-Baptiste "Illinois" Jacquet was a Creole born in Louisiana, who took his name from the Creole word "Illiniwek," meaning superior men, his mother being a Creole.

True story: In 19XX Illinois performed with a big band I played with in college. His featured piece was a solo bassoon version of Somewhere over the Rainbow that he performed after an impassioned don't-you-kids-do-drugs speech, the point of which was that drugs would be the ruination of us all. At the after party a hashish bowl was being passed around and when it got to Mr. Jacquet he said to Jay Friedman, the trumpeter player who had supplied the hash, he said, "What are you, a Jewboy?" due the paucity of hash. And then he sucked all of it down. The irony is that Jay was very very Jewish (despite which he was a passable trumpet player) and that I and the entire sax section were tripping our balls off during the show and after, and not on whatever drugs pass for LSD nowadays, but on authentic Blue Windows.

Cain and Strus can go off at anytime. Johnnies needs to lock them down.

DePaul looks much improved but we rebound from the Nova meltdown with a hard fought win.
