They creamed Depaul on the road and Depaul handled us in Alumni. I think they have size. I'm hoping the Ponds factor is as huge as I think it is.

Guessing we’ll be about 4.5 point dogs

Big lead that disappears but we hold on to win a close one.

Butler is always a tough game for us. They’ll be at home, and they’re coming off a game where they destroyed an improved DePaul team on the road.

BUT we played very good basketball the last 25 minutes of the game against Creighton. I expect a battle, a close game, with St.John’s pulling away at the 6 minute mark in the game.

Our history at Butler:

2017/2018: 70-45 loss.  Ponds goes 0 for 12, Clark 1 for 8. January 27th.

2016/2017: 110-86 loss.  Mussini goes wild for 20 points.  February 15th.

2015/2016: 78-58 loss.  Big game from Balamou as he goes 6 for 8. January 16th.

2014/2015: 85-62 loss. Rysheed goes 6/21. Feb 3rd

2013/2014: 69-52 win.  Jakar has a great game.

Flying into the middle of the heartland in the depths of winter makes it a difficult context to begin with.  Hopefully Ponds has last year's game in his head and stays focused for 40 minutes - and keeps the team focused as well.

This is a weaker Butler team and we should win a close one.  80-78

Ponds just may be the best ever at St. John's. With back sprain problems, he should consider acupuncture. I heard that it really works for back sprains. There is no risk. At worst, he can get a few hours of rest.

Simon is a versatile defender.  Can guard quick guards on the perimeter yet when he's switched onto a strong big in the post (which happens constantly as we switch on everything), he's still able to hold his own with that huge wingspan.
