Simon and Keita are unskilled and out of control players. That’s who they are and no coach could change that.

It’s not fair to lump LJ with them. He’s a first year d-1 player and takes chances. A lot of times those chances pay off.
Really like LJ's game. He's been a big part of many of our wins. Just think he needs to adjust taking less chances when he has 3 or 4 fouls, especially if others are in foul trouble. Agree that he will improve on this with more experience.

No way we beating Nova with the street ball offense.

I think we have a better chance of winning this one than the next one at Providence.  Even if we lose both we can't abandon ship as we'll still have a decent shot to go 3 and 1 in the last four and sneak in.

Nova will be very tough. There are much better than when we last played them. Four or fives passes and an open three or a layup. Our chance might only be a zone, to put them off their game. The zone should be an active 1 2 2, with the one being Simon. He can defend anybody one on one. If Simon gets in foul trouble Trimble can be the number one. The zone is vulnerable around the foul line, but it will give Ponds and LJ a chance for weak side steals. The back two need to front the Nova big man with other baseline player helping on the weak side.  Since the game is in the Garden, please don't bet on S. John's, as ton of money on SJU might result in another ref job.

In the half court a 1-2-2 would be  a corner 3 going away sale for nova.

Interestingly enough, since the start of the Bigeast season, we are 1-4 in games started before 5pm (with the only win coming in overtime in DC) and 5-3 in games starting after 5pm (but accounting for the controversial loss so 6-2, a close loss at Nova because of our failure to close out the game, and a loss to DePaul at home without Ponds) ... I expect a great game ...

"In the half court a 1-2-2 would be  a corner 3 going away sale for nova."

Don't agree. This zone has Simon pressuring the ball making the pass to the corner difficult. Ponds or LJ would be in the passing lane for the steal. Its worth a try just to keep just to keep Nova off balance.

I think we’ll play great but nova will not go down easy. St. John’s by 2 on the last possession.

I like a 1-2-2 zone. At the HS and aau level where there generally aren’t knock down 3 pt shooters it can work really well. With nova they are a threat to shoot from anywhere and take more 3s than anybody.  The bottom 2 guys in the zone will have to go from corner to opposite block and that is a lot to ask. If you are going to show some zone I would just work heavily on the 2-3. Everyone but Clark fits the 2-3 well.

We don’t have a big man to make 60% of his shots and draw double teams. It’s a miracle we are as good without a big and with Simon killing our spacing.
Thought this team was as good as the 99 team. Now everyone sucks?
