Lav doesn’t get sick he would still be here.

Nah.

The old regime was led by a convict

Once that (PoS Harrington) was removed, then Lavin was shitcanned too.

If u want to root for a team that pays kids, root for a state school and log off now.

With Will Wade, Bill Self, and Sean Miller still employed by their respective Universities despite it being completely obvious they and/or their staffs have been paying kids, there's no reason for anybody to think they won't get away with it anymore. Not to mention Andy Enfield, Bruce Pearl and plenty plenty more. These coaches are getting massive extensions, not pink slips. Won't be able to really compete without doing it. I want to win, I don't care how they do it.

And you can't tell me you think Matt's tactics were completely above board while here.

How could you be a mullin fan and not a fan of Matt?

He was cheating. It’s well known and we are lucky he didn’t get us in trouble.

I don't want to bust up the fairy tale you guys have in your mind about college sports but essentially every assistant coach at a high major school that is known for their recruiting prowess is doing something that they wouldn't want being made public. Some just have more "resources" than others.

Bruce Pearl is clearly and almost openly violating rules and there have been no repercussions against him. That's how a certain player of ours from Connecticut ended up at a non-basketball school in the middle of Alabama. Then he ends up here.

Another one of our better current players has been linked to a few known shady coaches in the past before committing here out of JuCo. He wouldn't have turned down better offers.

In this college basketball world you can't be as successful as Matt has been at that level while playing completely by the rules. It would be like a 190 pound non steroid user going homer for homer with McGwire, Sosa and Bonds in the late 90s and Early 00s.

I don't have any stone cold facts or evidence to present but I'd bet my net worth on it. Same thing with Lavin, but Lavin was a little more obvious about it. And for the record, I have absolutely no problem with it as long as they don't caught. I'd encourage it actually. Just win.

Anderson worked alongside two coaches who were fired for cheating as well when they were later given head coaching gigs (Chris Giles and Scott Edgar). It’s also completely naive to believe some of Nolan Richardson’s teams weren’t cheating. With all due respect to our awesome new Razorback fans it is simply not possible for a program like that to win a national championship in the period they won it without rampant cheating. Her would be like a clean athlete winning the Tour de France during the Lance Armstrong run when literally everyone was blood doping and taking a host of PEDs.

There are levels to cheating obviously, but nobody is completely legal.

If you're going to try and out cynical me you have a long day ahead of you.

Yes, obviously cheating is rampant in college basketball. Bruce Pearl should be in prison, and also Sean Miller and Scott Drew and Kelvin Sampson and whoever's coaching at Oregon, and J Calipari and Mike Schewrenski and Jim Boeheim and Jim Harrick should have been long ago hanged. I suspect there's a short list of coaches who were successful long term who didn't cheat, like maybe Bob Knight and one other guy.

But I've never heard even rumors about MA. Admittedly my only source for news - unlike most posters I don't have sources and moles in the athletic department or Mike Repole on speed dial - are these boards and the few people who confide in me off line. I've heard vague stories about eg how the basketball team will go into a clothing store and pick out a bunch of items and leave without paying and then someone goes in with a credit card and picks up the tab but I've never heard anything about cash payments, not since Abe Keita. Not once, ever. So I'm surpised. I find it hard to believe that Mullins would condone that - not because I think he's a saint but because he seems too proud and stubborn. I'd have thought that he's have thought it beneath him. The other point being that if SJU is paying players they're wasting money, because we stink and have for a long time.

Wasting money is what SJU has been doing for years. This would not be out of the norm by any stretch.

Dave Leitao has been cheating his whole career. That I know for a fact. And he hasn't won dick in the past 15 years.

That Dave Leitao  - who a had a winning record at two of his four coaching tenures - is allegedly a cheat - is not proof MA cheated. I am asking for evidence that MA was a cheat. That everyone else cheats is not proof of that.  Come on now.

Like I said, I don't have any evidence or proof that Matt was cheating. Same with Duke and Kentucky though I'm positive they wouldn't their recruiting tactics to become public. I think if you choose not to be naive about how division 1 college basketball works and if you connect some dots you would come to the same conclusion about Matt and every other recruiting assistant.

If a sportsbook put a line on it I'd bet everything I own on it and not lose any sleep. If you think differently that's fine. It doesn't really change much either way.

Do I seem naïve to you? Because from when I wake up in the morning to when I go to bed  I'm so skeptical of everything that I barely trust my own cynicism. It's all I can do anymore to justify my own belief in nothing. But I'm naïve. Okay. Whatever you say.

You're reasoning re Matt is from the general to the specific. Most cars are red, therefore this car is red. That's a logical fallacy, and false, and also stupid. And you're the advanced analytics guy. You claim to believe in math. Except when you don't evidently.

I don't believe everyone in college basketball cheats. I do believe that almost everyone who's successful in college basketball cheats. Most people in college basketball are not successful. SJU has stunk for 30 years. Do that math.

I do believe that almost everyone who's successful in college basketball cheats.

Matt would probably be considered one of the 15-20 most successful recruiting heavy assistants in the country over the past decade by most people that would know about that stuff.

There's also FAR more unsuccessful cheaters in college basketball than there are successful non-cheaters.

It was obvious Lavin did and I have no proof or evidence of that either, just common sense. You don't have to believe Matt and/or Lavin cheated. Makes no difference to me really. I hope Anderson, Cleveland and Macon do whatever it takes to get good players here because everybody else is and their only punishment is getting to the Sweet 16 and Final 4 and being celebrated like heroes.

I think its pretty ridiculous to accuse someone of cheating and having no basis of it. If he's cheating why doesn't he bring in better players? Why have we still stunk? I don't think coach K or Calipari need to cheat anymore because of their names alone. Kids want to go there.
