Not a very good one. We better hope we clean up in conference play.

Can you elaborate on “Not a very good one.”

Can you elaborate on “Not a very good one.”

We got West Virginia, Arizona and Arizona State. We have a chance to play either Virginia or UMass in a tournament game.

Other than that- Mercer, Queens College, Columbia, Central Connecticut State, New Hampshire, Vermont, Wagner, St. Peter's, Brown and Albany.

No Duke, No Syracuse, No Notre Dame sadly. Maybe schools just don't want to play us haha

Slightly, but still pretty bad.

If they get Virginia it's marginally better than last year's schedule which schedule if I recall was laughable.

Let's compare this schedule to last season's going with both Virginia or UMass which is obviously a massive difference. 2019 are projections so can be off but that's all we can go on for now.

2018-19
1. @ top 5 team Duke
2. Semi-Home vs top 50 team VCU
3. @ top 80 team Rutgers
4. Neutral vs top 125 team GTech
5. Home vs top 110 team Bowling Green
6. Home vs top 175 Princeton
7. Semi-Home vs top 250 Cal
8. Home vs top 250 Sacred Heart
9-13. Home vs 250-350 team.

2019-20 (w/ Virginia)
1. Neutral vs. top 20 Virginia
2. Neutral vs. top 20 Arizona
3. Neutral vs. top 60 ASU
4. Home vs. top 35 WVU.
5. Home vs. top 100 Vermont
6. Home vs. top 125 Columbia
7. Home vs. top 150 Brown
8. Home vs. top 160 Albany
9-13. Home vs. 250-350 team

2019-20 (w/UMass)
1. Neutral vs. top 20 Arizona
2. Neutral vs. top 60 ASU
3. Home vs. top 35 WVU.
4. Home vs. top 100 Vermont
5. Home vs. top 125 Columbia
6. Home vs. top 150 Brown
7. Home vs. top 160 Albany
8. Neutral vs. top 250 UMass
9-13. Home vs. 250-350 team

IMO if it's UVA instead of UMass this year's schedule is slightly more than marginally better than last year's. If it's UMass then it's better by a very thin margin.

The difference is I don't think this team will be in the position to be splitting hairs over the OOC schedule when it comes to getting in or seeding for the NCAA Tournament.

Slightly more than marginally better, but let's not split hairs.

Arizona was scheduled by Mullin and staff.
Mohegan Sun tourney and Big East /Big 12 challange were also scheduled last year. Please tell me how things have "changed" and the schedule is really tougher than last years?

You left out Mercer. That’s no cup cake. ASU and WV could end up being ranked or close to it by the time we play them. Just like we could. It’s way too soon to know, but ASU was good last year, and WV has a HOF coach who could go to the FF in any season. This is absolutely a challenging schedule.

It’s important for our new players and transfers Johnnies to see what a D1 team looks like.

Not gonna lie and say I know anything about Mercer but they went 11-20 last year and mild research suggests they shouldn't be much better this year, but who knows.

I think the schedule is fine for this team. A few challenging games away from home and a decent amount of confidence building games. This isn't an NCAA Tournament team so SOS and other metrics won't really matter.

Agree, because this team is probably going to stink. But let's not pretend - and I'm not suggesting that you are - that this is a challenging schedule. Because it isn't. A bunch of teams they "should beat," and three or four losses that won't hurt too bad.

If UVA, WV and Arizona aren’t good enough to make this a challenging non conference, that’s on them.

It’s significantly better than last year. Mercer and WV may have had down years, but they are usually good. They will both probably rebound.

Love this out of conference schedule!

December 18th - the Albany Great Danes versus the St. John's University Red Storm in the title game for "New York's team". It's on!!! Anything else is merely gravy.

I've waited a long, loooonnnnggg time for this matchup.

Of course, all 7 of those Big East teams ahead of us are in the Gavitt Games, which we are sitting out this year (we had to at some point), so those schools are at an advantage WRT SOS.

I would like to see the schedule be somewhat better in the future, but it's acceptable for Year 1, IMO.  My only complaint, is lack of a true road game.  I believe you should always have 1 before conference play begins, even if it's against a bad team (just so the kids know what going into a hostile opposing building feels like).  I'm sure next year's Big 12 Challenge game will rectify that.

I disagree - I think this is definitely a tournament team with Herron, LJ and Steere. Now we have much needed depth and a real coach that will have the team ready every game. This all changes with injuries but right now I see it- at best NCAA Second Round and at worst NIT. Next year when Herron gone I think that changes but now I think we are in good shape for next season. A good season will get us good recruits too.

It would take a minor miracle for this to be an NCAA Tournament team. Only 2 legit scoring options and no Big East caliber PG on the roster. Steere will be a nice piece but lets not trick ourselves into believing he will be an all BE level player right out of the gate. NIT is the ceiling here.
