I put my vote towards Nick Rutherford. He was the straw that stirred the drink and pushed the tempo. Really outstanding game.

Josh Roberts. Got us some nice points in paint, gave us inside presence. We’ve had shot blockers before, but Josh added a nice touch in paint.

Rutherford, 8:2 ratio. When Dunn gets cleared we're going to be just fine at the PG slot. Rutherford has great hands, maturity and most importantly is unselfish. His age is his greatest attribute, it looks like he understands sets and will hit guys in the right positions all year.

I think this was an important game for him even just to establish confidence and him being an offensive threat. I really feared defenses were going to sag off him

He really does have a nice feel and pace at the PG spot. Very impressed with his poise out there. Interested to see how he does under more duress against better competition but he played his role to a tee last night.

Rutherford looked very good. Strong PG. If we get Dunn eligible, the back court will be fine.

This team can be competitive.

Heron. But I was tempted to give it to Earlington based on his performance relative to last year. He’s really catching on to the game and is going to end up a very good player by his senior year. IMO Truth be told we got a lot of contributions from a lot of players.

Can't really take much from this one game against an awful Mercer team that felt more like an exhibition than an actual game. Unfortunately the next two teams on the schedule are significantly worse than Mercer. We'll really start to see what we have in the Vermont game. Hopefully Dunn is back by then.

If this game were close we would have said that we’re not at full strength w out Dunn and Steere. That’s the way it goes. Mercer sucks, but we have been picked last. We pounded them. It’s a promising start because it’s nice to see us put our foot on the opponent’s throat.

IDK how good Dunn and Steere are, but if they’re serviceable, and I expect they are at least serviceable, it’s depth, and with our style of play, we need them.

The player of the game is Heron by several miles. It’s not even close. Everyone else besides him and LJ were beneficiaries of a really awful Mercer team making terrible mistakes and not getting back at all on defense.

It was a layup line. Our fans are delusional. Too high after wins and too low after losses.

disagree. It was LJ who was clearly the best player on the court the first ten minutes of the game. Got us a 10 point lead and never looked back. From there he stepped back and let everyone else do their thing.

I agree, it's definitely a positive that we blew the doors off them from the start and it was never close. I'm just saying I'm not yet ready to declare Earlington and Rutherford as guys that will step up for us this year because they went for 17 points and 14&8 respectively. Maybe they will end up being key pieces over the long run but need to see them against some real competition first.

This is basically why i voted for Rutherford.  It was between him and Earlington simply because this might have been the best game either has all year.   They looked good, but i think some of the things that were successful will be far less so against real competition.

Even considering how atrocious Mercer was Rutherford looked better than I expected (I was expecting nothing) but it's worth mentioning that two of Mercer's starting guards fouled in 40 a combined minutes and a walk-on played nearly a half.

It’s funny in the beginning of last year Earlington looked like he had no business on a div 1 team . But yesterday he looked comfortable , had good footwork and looked impressive, albeit against inferior competition.

A few of us actually liked Earlington's potential since last year. You can find the posts if you look. He's worked hard since he stepped on campus and will continue to develop and end up contributing. He's scrappy and has massive  confidence.

Where is that poster from Arkansas that said he had knowledge that Marcellus wasn't cutting it in practice and would be out out? Clown.
