Long ago, (MSG on 49th and 8th, no three point shot), the year after Lapchick's last game, NYU went to the NIT finals against BYU and lost. NYU had a 6'4" wing named Bruce Kaplan who was a superb outside jump shooter from distance, once hitting what would have been twelve 3's against LIU. As defenses started to try to take away this shot Bruce mastered single dribble going left or right, square up, and shoot, or shot fake or pass or shoot. I bring it up because watching Cole I wonder if some simplification, ala Bruce Kaplan, might restore his game. He has the outside shooting skills but is turning into a pretzel trying to set up his shot.
