Obama's Campaign Funds... and what he originally said...
« on: October 29, 2008, 09:07:58 AM »
Am I the only one who remembers this…  along with the author of this article.  I just don’t understand why this has not been focused on more.  In the worst financial crisis that any of us has seen, $600 million has been spent on this campaign.  Money that I think would go to better use, perhaps spreading it to the middle and lower class, who so desperately need it.

This was Obama’s first real promise that he made.  He made it at a time when he was a long shot at being the Democratic nominee.  In typical politician fashion, you need not make good on a promise if you get to where you want to be.  In other words, once you get elected, who cares what you had to say to get there.  He is not elected yet, but he soon will be.

Read the article below, and enjoy.

What does him spending $600 million of his campaign money have to do with spreading money to the middle or lower class?  And neither candidates have kept promises they've made.  Should I show you the clips of John McCain that the Daily Show has brought out over the course of the last few weeks?

While walking down the street one day, a senator is tragically hit by a truck and killed. His soul arrives in Heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance.

"Welcome to Heaven," says St. Peter. "Before you settle in, it seems there is a problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts, you see, so we're not sure what to do with you."

"No problem, just let me in," says the senator.

"Well, I'd like to, but I have orders from higher up. What we'll do is have you spend one day in Hell and one in Heaven. Then you can choose where to spend eternity."

"There's no need! I want to be in Heaven," says the senator.

"I'm sorry, but we have our rules." And with that, St. Peter escorts him to the elevator, the doors open, and he rides the elevator down, down, down. When the doors open again, the senator finds himself in the middle of a beautiful green golf course. In the distance is a club, and standing in front of it are all his friends and other politicians who had worked with him.

Everyone is very happy and in formal dress. They run to greet him, and they reminisce about the good times they had while getting rich at the expense of the people. They play a friendly game of golf and then dine on lobster and caviar.

Also present is the Devil, who is a very friendly guy who has a good time dancing and telling jokes. They are having such a good time that, before the senator realizes it, it is time to go. Everyone gives him a big hug and waves while the elevator rises. The elevator goes up, up, up, and the door reopens in Heaven where St. Peter is waiting for him.

So 24 hours pass with the senator joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing. They have a good time and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by, and St. Peter returns.

"Well, you've spent a day in Hell and another in Heaven. Now, you must choose where you want to spend eternity."

He reflects for a minute and then answers, "Well, I would never would have thought it, I mean Heaven has been delightful, but I think I would be better satisfied in Hell."
So Saint Peter escorts him to the elevator, and down, down, down he goes into Hell. Now, the doors of the elevator open, and he is in the middle of a barren land covered with waste and garbage. He sees all his friends dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in black bags. And it's hot, hot, hot, and the odor is just horrible.
Sweltering hot. Hot and miserable. The Devil comes over to him and smoothly lays his arm around his shoulder.

"I don't understand," stammers the senator. "The day before I was here, and there was a golf course and club, and we ate lobster and caviar and danced and had a great time. Now all there is is a wasteland full of garbage, and my friends look miserable."

The Devil looks at the senator, smiles, and says, "Yesterday we were campaigning. Today you voted for us."

It had to be very easy for McCain to say after he had taken over $1.3 million from Big Oil over the course of the summer (most of it coming after he had said he would push hard for off-shore drilling...surprise, surprise).

I think they are one the largest contributors to his campaign...

Could McCain's public financing be labeled "wasteful government spending"?

i'm far from a reagan fan...but he wrote, "whatever else history may say about me when i'm gone, i hope it will record that i appealed to your best hopes, not your worst fears.
mccain and his "girls gone wild" campaign doesn't come close to that standard.

the argument over campaign financing is just window dressing. when republicans had a massive advantage over democrats in that department, no one on the right complained.

Then no Obama people should complain about a clean campaign.

Look it's this simple. Let's say you and I are running against each other. You go on record numerous times that you will use public financing. I agree to use public financing. I also say I'm not going to run a negative campaign.

Then you break your word to me which you have stated numerous times in public and decide you wont use public financing because that way you can outspend me 4-1 on advertising.

Sorry but even though I'm man of my word once you break your's there is no reason to keep mine. Not only that Obama has had plenty of negative advertising and in fact equals McCain on dollars spent on negative advertising. The only difference is Obama since he broke his word on public financing now has something like 4 times the amount of money to spend on total advertising

Obama spends just as much on negative campaign ads as McCain does. It's a documented fact

Sorry but if McCain had sat in a church for 20yrs and dedicated a book to david duke and had him christin his children or meet with terry nichols in his home or if mrs mcCain had worked for a law firm that reprsented members of the kkk maybe republicans would take a little heat. I have never seen so many questions about a prez. cand. go un answered. Would the media question McCain about any of these things no never.
