Joe the Plumber hits campaign trail...
« on: October 29, 2008, 11:11:07 PM »
http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/10/28/joe-plumber-backs-claim-obama-bring-death-israel/Joe Wurzelbacher, a.k.a. "Joe the Plumber," on Tuesday twice agreed with a claim from an audience member at a John McCain rally that "a vote for Barack Obama is a vote for the death to Israel."

Wurzelbacher was hitting the campaign trail on behalf of McCain for the first time, joining former Rep. Rob Portman on a GOP bus tour through Ohio.

At a stop in Columbus, he fielded the question on Israel from a self-identified Jewish senior citizen.

The questioner said he was "concerned" with Barack Obama's associations and "It's my belief that a vote for Obama is a vote for the death to Israel."

Wurzelbacher responded: "I do know that."

The questioner then complained about Obama's tax policies and reiterated his Israel comment.

"Well, you know what, I'll actually go ahead and agree with you on that one," Wurzelbacher said. "You know ... no, I agree with ya.'"

Wurzelbacher's first trip to the podium as a McCain surrogate was freewheeling. He often apologized to reporters gathered in a flag store for talking from his gut.

"I'm honestly scared for America," Wurzelbacher said.

He later said Obama would end the democracy that the U.S. military had defended during wars.

"I love America. I hope it remains a democracy, not a socialist society. ... If you look at spreading the wealth, that's honestly right out of Karl Marx's mouth," Wurzelbacher said.
"No one can debate that. That's not my opinion. That's fact."

Though "Joe the Plumber" has become a centerpiece of McCain's campaign in the closing days of the presidential race, McCain aides told FOX News the Republican nominee does not share Wurzelbacher's opinion on Obama's view toward Israel.

Obama states on his Web site that he strongly supports the U.S.-Israel relationship, as well as Israel's right to defend itself and foreign assistance to the country.

McCain, though, has suggested Obama's commitment to Israel is not as deep as it should be.

A McCain TV ad out Tuesday ridicules Obama for saying Iran, whose president is openly hostile toward Israel, is a "tiny" country that "doesn't pose a serious threat."

The narrator says: "Terrorism, destroying Israel, those aren't serious threats? Obama -- dangerously unprepared to be president."

I'm an independent and go both left and right with some issues, but honestly, if I were a Republican I would be completely and totally embarassed to see that Joe the Plumber is hitting the campaign trail and making public appearance like this.  This has turned into an absolute circus...

he's the typical republican imbecile who gets scammed into voting against his own interests.

at least the pmg911's of the world know where their interests lie.  they make decent money and obama plans to take more of it than mccain would.  but joe the plumber?  more like joe the jerkoff.

and this warning...the exit polls from the early voters are grim if you're an obama supporter.  he's leading by the thinnest of margins.  most "pundits" thought he'd take off early and close the deal on november fourth.

Obama is definitely slipping in the polls.  The RealClearPolitics average has dropped from 8% just a few days ago, to 6% as of today.  I think this thing is a definite toss-up if it gets down to around 4% by election day.

Maybe he puts his country's interests above his own.  Maybe he recognizes that this country flourishes on capitalism and that heavier tax burdens for business owners will results in lost jobs for their employees.  I'm sure he feels more confident with a proven leader over a firs term senator for international affairs and reaching across the aisle for more bi-partisan legislation.

The bottomline is if you vote for a candidate based on a celebrity endorsement, you shouldn't even vote.

Hmmmmm, for all Sarah Palin likes to call Barack Obama a socialist, maybe we should take a look into the practices in her own state.  Pulled this out:

"In Sarah Palin’s state of Alaska, every citizen gets a check from the government every year for doing absolutely nothing.  Not for work.  Not for anything they’ve earned.  They get that check just for breathing and living in Alaska.  Last year, that check amounted to $3,269 per taxpayer.  And all for nothing.

Do you know where Alaska gets that money?  They get it mostly from the oil companies that pump oil from the state.  More than half of Alaska’s total tax revenues come from separation taxes, which are basically taxes on oil and minerals taken from the ground.  Another 25% or so comes from corporate taxes.  Because companies are paying so much, Alaska citizens pay no income or state sales taxes.

But they do get a check generated from the wealth those big companies generate.  And there is no other state in the Union that doesn’t require either a sales or income tax from its citizens, yet gives them a check every year from money those citizens didn’t earn."

And I really have no problem with this kind of act by Palin, because I believe that those that cling to every word of the Constitution like it's the Bible (another problem in policy-making, but that's for a much longer thread), are really doing a disservice to the real needs of the country.

They have been gettng that check long before Palin.  Without that check, who would want to live there?  The US gov wants people living in Alaska.  I don't understand the point of this post?  How is not paying taxes socialist?  Isn't being able to keep one's wealth the opposite of socialism?  Again, what is the point of this post.   I don't like Palin, but to pick THIS to attack her over is nothing short of stupid.

Its not Palin's policy it started long before she came into office.  Plus it is not even a redistribution of wealth.  The oil companies that sell the oil pay royalties to Alaska because the state of Alaska owns the oil.  The state of Alaska then gives it to taxpayers since the state operates with a surplus.

They are still making considerable money off of the government, though, and did Palin ever try to overturn this while she was in office?

Here is a quote from Palin made to a journalist of a magazine: “we’re set up, unlike other states in the union, where it’s collectively Alaskans own the resources. So we share in the wealth when the development of these resources occurs.”

Again, I like the fact that Alaska is doing that, and if what Obama is arguing for is technically socialism, then fine, but it's really what this country needs at this point in time.
