Drexel scrimmage

I think St Jhns was supposed to scrimmage Drexel today, anyone have any info? Looking at the Drexel roster, their is a couple of NYC kids playing.

Yes, he's a good perimeter shooter, particularly by NY standards.

Realistically, with Larry Wright's transfer, our reliable 3 point shooter is from Tennessee-and he'll be gone next year. Horne and Roberts may be able to help out in the future, but it'd be nice to bring in some quality shooters (and a new head coach ) to compete in the Big East.

I'm told St. John's "won".

i hope the bookmakers don't call this an upset.

Fouch is a medical redshirt this year

Blue Ribbon voted Drexel last in their pre-season CAA poll.

Drexel is terrible and beating up on them does nothing to help prepare us for the season. Whatever happened to the exhibition games against teams like Marathon Oil and Athletes in Action? These teams were filled with ex-college players and provided much more of a test before the season begins.

Oct 31, 2008 | 11:55AM | report this If given the choice, most coaches would rather scrimmage against another D-1 school rather than play an exhibition game against, say, American International (that’s who UConn plays on Nov. 5) or Panhandle State (Oklahoma’s opponent on the same day).

But some don’t have the option and have orders from above because they will pack the stands and that brings in a decent amount of revenue.

Others, like Villanova’s Jay Wright, will play one scrimmage (this weekend against George Washington) and also play an exhibition (Nov. 6 vs. Northwood and ex-‘Nova coach, Rollie Massimino).

Wright wasn’t allowed about the specific scrimmage, but said that they certainly have their advantages.

``We can control the situation and we can get a very competitive workout that will simulate a Big East game,” he said.

Here are the primary advantages:
1) The competition is usually superior
2) You can tailor it to how you want (meaning you can play more than 40 minutes, you can agree to work on specific situations, etc.)

The main downside, however, is that there is no live crowd.

The NCAA doesn’t want these so-called “secret” scrimmages out in the public domain, but I’m going to let you in on basically the entire slate:

-Mase was a big focus in the offense

-Boothe, DJ, Horne, Burrell all looked good

-We were aggressive pushing the ball when given the opportunity.

Rule change does not allow for such anymore.  You can have an exhibition against a lower Division team (but then GTown wouldn't get credit for their win against St Leos) but not an exhibition team, at least I think that's how that went.

On another board I read that RT played aggressively down low especially on O boards but didn't hear much else

Remember this is just a scrimmage a time for both teams to work on some things and get out some kinks. The score is wiped clean at the end of each half/quarter because its really irrelevant. Its good for the kids to play someone other than themselves before the season starts.
