How about a nice round of applause for Paris Horne and the job he did defensively on Womack? He held him to three points until 3 minutes to go when he made two FT for a grand total of 5 points.

Oh yea, he harassed him so much Womack only had 2 dishes.

Nice job Paris!

He was definitely the spark that woke us up in the second half.

When you're a kid from New York and you do it in New York, that lasts forever!

looks like there was a record crowd of 30 guys in the student section...

One side was full(near St. Francis bench) the other side was empty.

Anybody know what happened to the sleeveless guy and his friend when security hauled them away for a little chat?

I was about to walk over and offer to post bail, but then I saw them return to their "seats"  <LOL>

There were a lot of flashes of very good signs but way too many lapses. Hopefully the boys learn and learn quick of what it means to play 40 minutes of basketball.

Positives

-Burrell, Evans, Coker all did well passing to each other in the post

-Kennedy drove the ball to the hoop and finished strong but he also showed poise to pull up for the midrange J

-Paris Horne and Quincy Roberts play some great defense.

-Malik Booth definitely has improved him jumpshot

-Tyshwan looks slight more comfortable running in the offense

-If Rob Thomas gets the ball in the paint, Rob Thomas gets two points

-Justin Burrell is playing above the rim(he missed the one dunk o well but I'm glad he is realizing he can get up over people)

-Dele Coker didn't foul anyone!

-we adjusted our offense and moved the ball well against the zone first half

-we made our free throws down the stretch

Negatives

-We didn't play well as a team 2nd half

-We committed 20+ turnovers against a bad team

-We rebounded horribly as a team again

-Sean Evans loses sight of his man off the ball too much

-Tyshwan is still a step slow on defense gets blown by off the dribble every time(he needs to keep his feet moving not be flat footed)

-Malik had more turnover than assists(6:5)

-only had 11 points from the bench

-Malik Boothe, Paris Horne, and DJ Kennedy out rebounded the rest of the team

-we got out hustled completely 2nd half

now if he'll only learn to shoot threes.  or don't take them if he can't hit them.

the bottom line is some st francis players are better than ours.  their bench was better tonight.

Sleeveless guy isn't "Not the Sleeveless Guy" in the forum. I'm not sure though but public safety likes to toss their weight around too much. You can get in trouble for saying "sucks"

Really??? Who would you take on St. Francis over any of our guys?

I admit their bench played better or ours played more poorly depends how you want to look at it.

What's happened to Burrell?  One platry output after another. One wonders if he's hurt.

If there's no noticeable limp, I'm going with a back injury.

Since you brought it up first, I am not pleased when the student section screams out “SUCKS” during player and coaches’ intros. I am a season ticket holder at Hofstra too, and I find it to be very lacking in taste.

I would prefer to see the students turn their back on them and totally ignore them.

Of course this is just one old man’s opinion.

Let's go RED STORM!

I'm on the phone now, basically public safety told the students to sit down and shut up if not they'll be banned.

I'll call Monasch right now and get this settled.
This is OUR HOUSE!

And did everyone notice that the officials made them remove the media table in front of section 6 before the game started?
The decision was move it or forfeit the game.

Its the same old story Public Safety tells the students who are most passionate about the game to be quiet. They claim Father Maher says they are an embarrassment and to stop them. I don't know who to believe but I do remember Father Maher laughing and encouraging ushers at MSG to kick out students last season for standing. So I don't know where to place blame Father Maher, Public Safety or both but its something that has to stop. Its college basketball, students are supposed to go to games, go crazy, and have fun. They wonder why no one wants to go to games.

From what I was told the students sat down for the entire 2nd half. Ultimately the game is won/lost by the players but I'm a strong believe that the fans can uplift their team and strike awe into their opponents. Telling the students to keep quiet or get kicked out is just appalling.

"sleeveless guy" got pulled mid Lets Go Johnny's chant, way to go public safety, kill the crowd mid game.
We actually did go talk to some of the players and coaches after the game and when we stopped cheering it kind of caused them to lose some of their momentum. So that shows that the few of us in the student section really are "the 6th man"

the student body has been criticized all to often for sitting on their hands during games...unlike other schools where the kids go nuts.

someone should tell maher and the rent a cops this isn't tennis or golf.  these people are cancers.

jeez...if it's not one thing screwing up the program, it's another.

You hit the nail on the head. Maher has been doing this for several seasons.
If it wasn't this program, I'd find it comical that the one priest showing up to the games is trying to snuff out the remaining flicker of St. John's' student passion. At some point, Norm Roberts or the next head coach will have to address it with him.

Jayson Williams was among the 2900 there tonight.

as a HS student considering st john's (will know if i get in or not on friday...i'm not worried about that) just to hear something about students being shut up because they are too loud or some nonsense like that really makes me think "do i want to come here".  i mean really, unless they are screaming sexist or racial remarks, the school should let them be.  if i were at that game with freinds who are considering st john's and we saw security do that to the students, i guarantee none of my friends would go to stj.  that's a fact.

Nothing wrong with getting in an opposing players head.  We DESTROYED Darius Rice at Alumni Hall my junior year.  He spent the whole game jawing with me and my friends and was totall taken out of it.
I wouldn't be too worried RandomHero, I yelled and cursed for all three of my years at St. John's and I only got booted once from MSG during the BET for telling a six year girl ND fan that there was no such thing as Santa.
