HORNE, SMITH HONORED

St. John’s sophomore guard Paris Horne was named to the Big East Weekly Honor Roll. Horne (pictured) averaged 14.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists in leading St. John’s (8-1) to two victories, including a career-high 18 points in a win over NJIT.

Manhattan sophomore guard Chris Smith of St. Benedict’s was named MAAC Co-Player of the Week and Met Basketball Writers Association Player of the Week after erupting for a career-high 35 points in a 70-60 win over Princeton on Sunday. Smith leads the Jaspers and is fourth in the MAAC at 15.8 points per game.

It was a nice week for Paris. He's shooting better than I thought he would so far this year.  Hopefully that carries into the Big East schedule.

BIG EAST Honor Roll
Samardo Samuels, Louisville, F, Fr.
Averaged 18.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and shot 54.5 percent from the field in a 2-0 week.


Lazar Hayward, Marquette, F, Jr.
Posted 19 points and a career-high 18 rebounds in a 69-50 win over IPFW.


Luke Harangody, Notre Dame, F, Jr.
Had 23 points, 15 rebounds, five assists and five blocked shots in a 74-67 win over Boston U.


Paris Horne, St. John’s, G, So.
Averaged 14.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists in a 2-0 week. He shot 64.7 percent from the field.


Jeremy Hazell, Seton Hall, G, So.
Averaged 19.5 points and 6.0 rebounds in a 2-0 week.

I like the fact he gets so many offensive rebounds and his assist numbers were much better than I thought.

But look who he did it against.  NJIT and Bethune Cookman?  If he maintains his stats through the Big East season, than that is something.

Horne didn't make the schedule. Played well against everyone he's faced.
