Why wouldn't Lawrence start?

Why wouldn't Lawrence start?

Non-conference game(doesn't mean anything) coach is playing a large majority of his team.

Anybody else hoping that Omari made friends with Jackie Carmichael and can coax him to head this way??  That kid is long and smart and tough in the paint

Oh ok. Thanks. Do we know how Omari has been playing so far this season? Stats? Has he been playing?

He has been leading scorer of the team past few games. I will do my best to get my hands on some numbers and box scores.

Thanks Dave. I had no idea that he was even playing games.
I only know that he's been going to them.

Thanks jpm. Any assessment coming from you is invariably on the money. Any comments about Omari's prospects at the next level you'd care to share with us?

QC While noting that Omari's minutes were limited because South Kent's coach used a non-league game to get some other players work, it should also be noted that he was very good while he played.  Most important to me was that he played like himself.  To me that means he hit a couple of jumpers but more importantly his passing and floor game were good too as was his ability to compete for rebounds. He does look a bit heavier but in fairness to him he's had no previous history of being out of shape so my guess is regular playing will take care of whatever post injury conditioning he needs.

The great scout Tom Konchaski of HSBI has made the comparison of Omari to a player from the 70's named Charlie Yelverton who went to Rice and was the star of the Fordham team coached by a young Digger Phelps before heading to Notre Dame.  That's not only a physical comparison (both solid 6'4" forwards as players) but it works with respect to how they played.  They both were talented guys who were tremendous competitors.  To me a more recent comparison, although from the 80's I'm afraid, is to Bruce Dalrymple, who was the first key New York recruit for Bobby Cremins at Georgia Tech.  I think Omari will ultmately be a better shooter than both of those players but his rugged style and finishing ability combined with high IQ will be a tremendous addition to the team.

Have only seen film clips of Omari but have been very impressee with his handle. Thinking he could possibly play the point. Plays tough on the ball D.

I'm paraphrasing, but when Omari committed here he was quoted as saying that Norm told him he saw him as a combo guard. I took that to mean that he would be our starting point guard by the 10th game of the season. We need both Omari and Hardy in there as much as possible.
