Do we accept or deny an invitation if given one?

No ... playing in a postseason tournament when you couldn't even break .500 is an insult.  St. John's should try and hold onto whatever little dignity they have left.

How funny would it be if St. John's and Hofstra got matched up in the CBI?

I agree and I feel that if we lose or even worse get blown out in the tourney it only adds insult to injury. Then on the other hand if we win it proves what? Not too much. Also I'd rather take whatever health we have left and take it into next season.

On a sarcastic note the team is too tired to play any more games  ::)

Absolutely accept!

Take the invitation.
As pathetic as the tournament is, it'll provide additional practice time as well as live game and tournament experience for the underclassmen.

It's college basketball's equivalent of getting invited to a really weak bowl. The coaches will almost always take the thirty extra days of practice and bowl experience.

If I'm a player, I want to play. I don't care if it's against Vanderbilt, Houston, or North Carolina St.
Let's compete.

Turn it down.  The players need to earn a postseason berth.

As pathetic as the CBI is, you have to accept.  More practice time with this team is a big factor.  Winning a few more games might help the team forget about that Marquette blow out too!

I agree play on as long as you can.

if we were one game over .500, then i'd accept.  that's not the case.  the team doesn't deserve to play in a post season.

the cbi is norm's hail mary pass.  we bought nine wins at the beginning of the year...and we can buy four or five more now (you pay to get accepted to the tournament).  this way, the brain trust can say we made the big east this year...and we made the post season.  "progress".

I think if we would have beaten Marquette we would have gotten an invite to the NIT

I think if we would have beaten Marquette we would have gotten an invite to the NIT
and if we ran the table in the big east tournament we would have gone to the ncaa's.

instead, we scored ten points in the first half of the marquette game and the rest is history.

do you not think with 17 wins we would have made the NIT? Is that the point you are trying to make or would NIT not have been acceptable for your standards?

a winning record and i'd be glad to be in ANY tournament.

i think a losing record precludes anyone from being rewarded with a post season.

We would not have made the NIT.  There a lot of teams that have better records that won't be making the NCAA.

In the Bigeast alone there is possibly 5 teams above us that might not make the NCAA.

Accept an invitation to play in CBI?   Wow  have standards dropped. Maybe we can pony up the 60k to host a game too?  After reading player's comments after the Marquette debacle, i doubt they even want to play anymore. Haven't they been embarrassed enough?  Maybe this is one of those tournaments where everyone gets a trophy at the end.   Norm, Monasch, and Harrington would be so proud.

Survey says, "ANNNNNNNNNNNNN!!"  Sorry, Dave!  The Johnnies wouldn't have gotten an invite to the NIT, if they had beaten Marquette.  This isn't the NIT pre-2007.  The Johnnies would probably have had to advanced to Friday or Saturday night before getting an NIT invite.

So, the Johnnies would have had to, not only beat Marquette, but Villanova and possibly, Louisville before getting an NIT invite.  You know there wasn't a snowballs-ice-cold-lemonade chance in H-E-double-hockey-sticks that was ever going to happen!!

As, per the topic....  NOPE!  This team doesn't deserve an invitation to any postseason tournament.  I'd very, much consider being done rooting for the Johnnies, if they accept an invite to some garbage tourney like the CBI.  The only reason they would accept an invite is to paint a picture and play on the intelligence of us fans, as progress for Roberts.  Get real!!

I think if they had beaten Marquette they would have been in the nit. But they didn't so who cares don't play in the cbi. Hit the gym get stronger because if u don't win the whole thing as a big east team it looks horrible. Disgusting. I think the kids are tired menatally. Let them heal their bodies regroup and come up with a new plan.
