somewhat of a lance update

my friends trainers with one of lance's trainers and offered me up some disapointing news.

"lance is waiting on xaiver to choose a school, and st johns is a longshot."

so basically if X follows cali to kentucky, lance goes to kansas, if X goes to kansas, lance chooses between us and maryland, who the trainer sed is most definitely still in his mind, he even seriously considering wake still.

at this point i really have stopped caring about lance...im a little more upset with two coaches that could have been serious candidates at st johns go to other schools...if knight signs somewhere soon, i might truly become indifferent towards this program for the first time in 7 years

re: coaches.  Things that wouldn't happen:

1. st. john's paying 2 mill to sean miller.
2. bob knight.  I have no idea why anyone thinks that this is a good idea or that the school would.  along with quitting on his texas tech team, he's foul mouthed, brings attention to himself, and is bad with the media.  I can't see how he and st john's would be a match.

re: lance - I am hoping that's just rumor, but it would make sense.  If St. john's was a second place candidate for sure, he could have pulled the trigger and said he was coming for the simple fact that Kansas would take X Henry over him.  If someone from the current Red Storm squad should leave and a schollie opens up, I'd rather have Kevin Parrom than all this drama and wishin' and hopin'.

2) bob knight has calmed down ALOT recently and is a hall of fame coach who'd be able to turn things around pretty fast

3) i agree, after all the bs, would rather have a great 4 year player than a phenomenal 1 yr player at this point

**Rumors are flying that new Memphis coach Josh Pastner has hired Carl Henry as his DOBO, but I haven’t gotten it confirmed yet from Henry or anyone at Memphis. If Henry does take that job, the trickle-down effects would be huge…You would expect Xavier to stay at Memphis, and then probably Lance Stephenson to end up at Kansas after all.

1.  And here we are back in 1985.  NY rulez and there's no national media.  LOL.  In reality SJU would likely have to pay a premium for said coaches since the cost of living in and around SJU is about 50% higher than in any of these other places.

2.  Of course Knight has mellowed.  He isn't REALLY working right now, oh and he's 105.  But put him back on the bench older still and still not realizing he has no idea how to relate to anyone under 50 and he'd be back to ticking time bomb.

OMG WAIT, theres a national media now? when did this happen? wow, thanks for setting me straight...you are so smart...but hey, while we're on the subject, ny is still the biggest media market in the country...and yea, i can see where you're coming from with knight...its not worth bringing in a hall of fame coach when there are no other good options out there for a fear that he cant relate to young kids anymore...like in his last full year coaching taking a crappy team to the ncaa tournament, or the sweet 16 two years before that...oh, he couldnt recruit well consistently there, well its texas tech, not st johns...i doubt he'd have problems recruiting here...and maybe he will be a ticking time bomb, but what do u want in the papers: "Knight goes off again" or "St johns sets record in loss to marquette"

Obviously you missed the point about the national media.  NY is not the biggest media market in the country anymore, the country is.  It's too easy and economically efficient to reach the country via tv, internet and wireless technologies. 

There is no more focus on NY than any other city in America anymore, especially in the sports world.  I mean if your sole source of updates is the Post and the Daily News well, then you live in NY since no one else in the world give's a rat's butt about those papers.  And they still won't in a few years when one of them is still around along with about 8 other newspapers in the country.

So explain to me again why any of these or other brilliant coaches would be willing to give STJ the big city discount.  The idea is ridiculous.  Even if STJ doubles their pay they're simply setting themselves up as a jumping off point to a big job.  None of the three you are mentioning need a stepping stone job.

Re Knight, well recruiting wasn't his strong point the last half a dozen years at Indiana either.  Must have been the lack of exposure and hoops tradition, eh?  Of course the point is moot as if he was to really return to coaching, which I doubt entirely - he only made and continues to make those statements to keep himself slightly more relevant than the STJ basketball program - I'm pretty sure he's looking for a bigger job than STJ to return to.

wait, wait, wait...ok, so now you are saying st johns is a stepping stone job?...ok, so you are saying someone would come to a prestigious program (and dont even start with the we arent prestigious anymore bc of 7 bad years) and rebuild it, and then leave once its good again...maybe you dont know this but we are a basketball school, in nyc, and a power conference...if a coach rebuilt this program he would not leave unless he truly could get ALOT more money, but even if "he" did leave once the program was good again, anyone would want the job from then on out anyway so who cares

and there is no more focus on nyc than any other town in america...well im not addressing that...if you really believe that then theres no point in arguing with you...you cant argue with a crazy person...i tried with marco with the whole baylor situation but he'll still have u believe that making the big 12 finals and NIT finals a year after making the ncaa tournament still means you're not "back", so whatever, yea, let knight go coach in Alaska bc theres the internet and espn

well our definitions of "back" are different...i believe once your back in the ncaa you are "back" while i think you define it by many years of success in a row...either way, idt baylor ever thought they would go 5-11 in conference but the finals of the NIT and making it to the Big 12 finals isnt exactly a bad year...i really thought our boys would come off that NIT win with some confidence and a little something to prove although i dont believe their character was all that good at all, and their talent level certainly wasnt high enough for them to be screwing around...if jarvis wasnt such an a$$hole then that NIT win would have been a positive for our team rolling into the next season, as it is for the other teams that win it...i attended most of the NIT games that season and they really did play well as a team, so its a shame what happened

Good post, I agree. I just dont get how some can say 1 team is back because they lost in the 1st round of the tourny than follow it up with a nice run in the NIT-with 4 and 5 star upperclassmen on the team. Some posters will glorify this just to put down their very own St Johns

I know your sole purpose in these things is to annoy fans of the program, but this Abbot and Costello routine you do with Baylor is getting REALLY ANNOYING!!
Baylor was not in the same class as SJU as a basketball program! They then had an even worse scandal than SJU, then managed to make an NCAA and come in 2nd in the NIT. Back, for them yes they are back, if not better than they were. SJU despite a far less appalling scandal had to have a rule change that the BE is considering calling the Norm rule just to make their OWN conference tourney held in a place where they play "home" games! So while Baylor was a worse program than SJU, they managed to leap past us despite having the worst scandal imaginable.
Please stop this Baylor comparison as it only makes you look like a fool!
