Norm dining with the devil?
« on: August 02, 2009, 10:43:56 AM »
Ok so my subject line is a bit misleading but it sounded cool. There was a dinner in Las Vegas a couple of days ago for Sonny Vaccaro and the NCAA urged coaches not to attend the dinner. Billy Donovan was one of the many coaches who intended on going but later declined after hearing from the NCAA and his compliance office.

3 Coaches in attendance though were Bill Self, Paul Hewitt, and our very own Norm Roberts.

It seems that Norm did follow compliance and didn't do anything wrong by being in attendance however it might have been frowned upon by the NCAA. Thoughts?

I pray that the NCAA will take rightful action and ban Norm from coaching for eternity

NCAA is a bunch of hypocrits tellin evrybdy where they go and who they break bread wit.

NCAA is all bout money cept when it come to the peeps who make them the money: the players.

NCAA masquerade theyselves as a non-profit academic org when they is nuthin mo than a money-making monopoly that oughta be burn to the ground.

Attack basketball, pressure defense, 40 minutes of hell ... Early on it might be 30 minutes of hell, then 10 minutes of what the hell are you doing?"

I'm pretty sure coaches laundering payoffs through an "awards dinner" is something the NCAA should prevent. Even if the proceeds is going to a good cause of helping out their program it's still creating an unfair advantage for schools to be funding aau programs to create a pipeline.

I'm actually pretty happy Norm was there. This is the first time he was actually a leg up on the competition being somewhere they weren't with guys who can send us players.  ;D

Shady stuff goes on all the time. Some things get a blind eye while others don't. NCAA isn't the most innocent and concerning group of people by any stretch but all of this is interesting to follow.

It's not like it will matter at all.  What are the odds Norm signs a top 50 recruit this season?  Or, better yet, how about a top 100 recruit?  The answer remains the same ... slim to none.  This program and more to the point, this coach, cannot remotely compete with the big boys.

It certainly can't hurt getting tighter with Gary Charles. I'd most certainly take Sterling Gibbs, Rod Odom,  and JJ Moore from his Panther program. If I'm Norm I wouldn't do anything to burn this bridge, I'd keep paying(not literally) the toll to keep crossing.

I think we should start paying for players again and than have to sit here and listen to every poster cry again when we get caught.

So y'all have to excuse me if I got mo respct fo the man layin down some asphalt than some pasty money changer buyin another Maybach thanks to pumpin and dumpin some weak ass IPO that his boys down on the third floor took to the street.

And son, stick to whatever it is y'all stick to best, which surely aint "hoops" or an honest look at the street.

Such a thorough understanding of the capital markets

Detroit, Memphis, Baltimore, Las Vegas, New Orleans, or Miami are all cities where an uneducated "workin man and his fam can afford to live." They've just been run into the ground by ineptitude, corruption, violence, and poverty.

So y'all have to excuse me if I have mo respct fo the man who was worked hard studying for at least sixteen years and had to compete against thousands of other equally hardworking and ambitious women and men for a position that requires he/she analyze the value of a company in an expedited fashion than the dirty loser who failed in school through laziness, partying, a low IQ, or a combination therein and thus is now layin down some asphalt.

And son, stick to whatever it is y'all stick to best, which surely aint "the English language" or an honest look at The Street.

The world is filled with people with different opinions and outlooks on life.

I don't see the need to diminish the value of the blue collar or white collar person no matter their race or creed. We all need garbage men, plumbers, doctors, lawyers, owners, construction workers, marketers, financiers, etc. There is a place for everyone and we shouldn't judge someone for the path they live.

So who can enlighten some people on the work of Sonny Vaccaro for those who don't know who he is?
