The most highly touted post player in New Jersey’s big-time class of 2011, Hubert has a whole host of schools coming after him. Wake Forest (offer), Penn State (offer), Villanova, St. Joseph’s (offer), Florida, Xavier (offer), Kansas, St. John’s, La Salle (offer), Rider (offer), Providence (offer), and Pittsburgh (offer) are involved in the recruitment of the 6-foot-9 center thus far. No one has taken the lead in the race to land Hubert’s services as of now. As time moves along, more schools will likely join that list, as Hubert is the type of player, and person, that almost all schools covet.

A long and lanky post player, Hubert is a fantastic shot blocker and also alters many shots that he does not bat away with his long arms. He does not try to swat the rock out of bounds every time, usually keeping it in play, a trait that is lost on most bigs nowadays. Hubert does a good job of seeing the floor at both ends and moves well, getting up and down the court without a problem. Active on both offense and defense, Desmond does not let his height get in the way of him contributing however possible. He will step outside a bit on offense to help out a teammate if need be, though he does not yet have a reliable jumper. Hubert is not a good free throw shooter, but he also does not get to the stripe that often. His offensive game is still very much a work in progress, as he does not really score the ball all that way. His rebounding also needs some work. Once Hubert gets true weight training in college, his offensive game and play on the boards may well benefit, as he will not be so frail and thus will not be pushed around. Hubert is an intriguing prospect with great upside and a high ceiling.

ESPN LINK

July, 2009: Hubert is a very long athlete who is coming into his own as a player. He has an incredible wing span that allows him to block or alter shots with regularity at the defensive end. His length changes the way teams play because of the fear of his shot blocking ability. Hubert reminds you off a young Marcus Camby. He has great upside. He cleans up the glass on both ends of the floor. He runs the floor like a deer and is capable of running the wing to finish, catch an alley-oop to finish above the goal, or follow a miss with a slam. He is still polishing his offensive game, but will be a big-time prospect in the years to come. He needs to continue to hit the weight room to add more weight to his frame. April, 2009: Hubert is an extremely long and athletic player. His wing span is similar to Sam Perkins. He is a very active player but needs to add several things to his immediate game. The first being his body strength. Offensively he has good hands but is unable to hold position and many times is unable to complete plays through contact. He sprints the floor in transition like a guard and makes athletic finishes. On the offensive glass he finds ways to the ball. His length and quick athleticism allow him to keep the ball alive out of his area. Transition Defensively he has a chance to be really good. He is quick off his feet and challenges every shot in the paint. When he improves his strength his body strength then his game may elevate a level.

February, 2009: Hubert has incredible length, but he needs to add a considerable amount of strength to his very lanky frame. He would also benefit immensely from adding strength to his trunk, which would allow Hubert to hold his position in the post for scoring and rebounding purposes on both ends of the court. Due to his lack of strength, Hubert loses the ability to exploit his height advantage on offense because smaller, stronger defenders just walk him up the lane and push him off the low block. He needs to continue to refine his post moves though he has a decent jump hook with the right hand over the left shoulder. Hubert does a decent job of using his length to block or alter shots, as well as staying on the ground and not wildly attempting to block shots. Instead, Hubert does a good job of staying on the floor and waiting until the shooter releases the ball before Hubert starts going after the shot attempt. He runs the floor well and when he gets stronger, he could score a number of points in transition.

September, 2008: Hubert has a ton of natural ability and gifts, which provides a good base for a young interior player to build on. He has very good athleticism and quickness, which makes him a tough player to keep off the boards, especially on the offensive end. Hubert has good leaping ability and a quick second jump, making him a very effective offensive rebounder. He needs to improve his post moves and footwork, which will make him a force with his back to the basket. In addition to his athleticism, he also has good length which means that he should become a good shot blocker, if he provides the necessary effort consistently. His intensity tends to wane at times and he seems to lose interest for stretches. With improve activity and added strength, Hubert will develop into an impressive interior force.

November, 2007: Desmond is a long post player with tremendous potential. He is a little awkward right now and must gain strength and aggressiveness as well as grow into his body. He is a good shotblocker and defender when he is on balance. He is like a young colt right now. Look for him to be over 6'9". As with most young post players, he will develop a lot over the next 18 months. Desmond is a top 150 player in the 2011 class right now but that could easily change.

One of the best players in New Jersey is Desmond Hubert '11 of New Egypt High School, a 6'9 power forward. Hubert, though, has not heard from the new man in charge of the Red Storm.

Desmond Hubert, Randall’s 6-9 Playaz teammate, is also narrowing his list.

Hubert listed Pittsburgh, Villanova, Ohio State, Virginia Tech, Georgetown, Georgia Tech and Maryland.

“I’m starting to come to more of a decision on what schools are going to be on my list and what schools aren’t going to be,” Hubert said.

Still, as first reported by ZAGSBLOG, Pitt and Villanova are at the top.

“I feel really comfortable with those two schools, with the coaching staff, especially at Pitt and Villanova,” Hubert said.

6-9 big man Desmond Hubert of New Egypt (N.J.) and the Playaz said he’s considering Pittsburgh, Georgia Tech, Virginia, Wake Forest and Maryland but says he’ll add more to the list. “I didn’t set any [visits] up yet,” he said

Desmond Hubert '11 of New Egypt (NJ) tells me he is not anywhere close to making a college decision. North Carolina is recruiting him again.

Desmond Hubert, the 6-foot-9 forward from New Egypt (N.J.) High, is down to North Carolina and Maryland and will decide this spring after officially receiving an offer from Carolina coach Roy Williams.

I wonder where Zags and Kline got that scoop? Oh yea

Even though it's not Ultimate Frisbee season, let me guess-Zags didn't make the drive down to NJ. Did they credit you at least?

Hubert has always been heavily into the "Tobacco Road" schools. Even though he was their Plan E recruit, I'd be very surprised if he didn't wind up in CH.

I think you already know the answer to this.

It was funny to hear someone use the phrase "pull a Zagoria" this weekend.

This would presumably knock UNC out of the Chol sweepstakes, right?

I'd love to see us get involved with Chol but I'm guessing its too late with Kansas, Zona, and Washington involved.
