Stats Analysis of St. John's Canada games, day 1

Fellow Big East blogger Villanova by the Numbers was interested in crunching some numbers and looking at the team's performance... his first day post is here (the stats are only for McGill):

Remember, of course, that these are exhibition games, meant to work out different players and combinations. GreyCat, the author, notes an interesting lack of offensive rebounds and a low assist rate, as well as good offense, and good work on turnovers on both sides (Malik Boothe's number of turnovers is worrisome, though!)

Does the guy realize that Dele, Justin did not play and Rob T is hurting bad ?
Left Sean and Justin2 as the only beef inside of a team of 8 players. Perhaps they had to restrict themselves on the offensive glass to ensure they didnt foul out ?

Perhaps that explains the one fly in the ointment (besides injuries) in the exhilarating four game sweep - three or four white jerseys around the basket for offensive bounds and no johnnies in sight most of the time. Cede the bounds and get back on defense?

It was a good way to start the season. At the very least, we learned we're deeper than we've been in ages.

I never said or implied the team didnt get back on D , they certainly did.
I said there may have been a very valid reason for not crashing the offensive boards.

Redmannorth - That is missing from the analysis, but remember he's only working from the box scores, and isn't following the team as closely as we are.  Makes for more objective analysis as well.  It's important to note the lack of offensive boards - it could be b/c of the missing players (esp with Sean out, likely) BUT it could be a change in emphasis as Norm tries to get the guys to prevent runouts and fast break mismatches.

I would have loved to see Dele and Justin; I think Sean will be similar to last year, but the other two could be different players.
