Calm Before the Storm: St. Bonaventure [Johnny Jungle]
« on: November 15, 2009, 10:36:03 AM »
This game will be an early road test against an improving squad from the A-10, featuring the league’s Rookie of the Year Andrew Nicholson, who has gotten publicity in both Sports Illustrated and Slam! Magazine. St. Bonaventure has talent and size in the paint, and capable guards; this will be a better test of the Red Storm than LIU, and a good chance for the team to see what the team can do against more comparable talent.

If we're to return to where we were 10 years ago,
we need to apply the pressure man to man defense.

What Roberts must do to keep his job is find something
This team is good at. There's no reason why man to man defense shouldn't be an asset for us.

It will be interesting to see how we cover Nicholson. I think Burrell is a better defender than Evans but after his game 1 foul trouble will Norm defer duties to Evans? He often did this last season.

Also the Bonnies seem to run more of a 4 guard lineup with Nicholson being the one big man. It will be interesting to see if that forces us to go small or whether we force them to go big?

Nothing to broadcast the only way to see this game is to be there. I think we're all turning the radio dial to 1130 AM

Hey there is a game tomorrow.....

Also why did St. John's fly to this game? I thought Rochester was about 2-3 hours away from St. John's.

Okay, geography major, it's 350+ miles from Queens to Rochester, a 6 hour drive.   :D

Dated a girl from there in college. By the time the TEN hour train ride was over I decided I did not want to date the girl anymore. No one should ever go to Rochester for any reason ever. Might be the ugliest city in America if not the world!

Wow thats alot of hate for Rochester.  Just for a little clarification Bonaventure is not in Rochester.  It is actually about 2 hrs away from Rochester.

I'm American we don't study geography.  :D  I thought it was a bit closer though. If flying helps them play better and avoid bus lag I'm all for it.

Dave, you're too smart to be serious.
St.B is an hour north of Syracuse.

You guys need to get in front of a map, for real.

First, St. Bonaventure is straight west of Binghamton, just over the NY/ Penn border.  South of Syracuse but also far, far west.

That's no short trip.

That said, I think Rochacha is kind of ugly as a whole - I have been three times, I think - and the U of Rochester campus is one of the most depressing places I have been to.  But there are neighborhoods in that city that are kind of cool and pleasant.  It's a giant former company town - used to be all Eastman Kodak jobs.  And a part of the Underground Railroad/ abolitionist history. Kind of a cool part of upstate, to me.

And it's better than Buffalo.  Probably better than Syracuse.  Certainly better than Olean. And Binghamton should be destroyed. That place is a hole.

...And Binghamton should be destroyed.

Kevin Broadus is working on that as we speak!!!

Binghamton isnt that bad, but broadus did a lot to damage the community and campus spirit. That team pre destruction would have challenged for a first round ncaa win

I'm not kidding I have no clue about "upstate" New York. Yes its slightly sad than most Americans are terrible at geography and I am completely dependent on my GPS but its true. I've never been to up up up upstate NY. I must have mistaken Rochester with another chester of NY. I could have sworn it was closer.

So anyways a little funny story, I initiated conversation at the gym today with someone wearing a St. Bonaventure shirt saying "we play you guys tomorrow" and conversation continued and turns out he runs a St. Bonaventure site called...

http://thebonablog.wordpress.com/

Who would have thought in a little beach town in NJ people who run sites covering the Johnnies and Bonnies would work out at the same gym?!?!? What a small world.

Also the guys over at http://bonabandwagon.proboards.com have taken notice to our thread here. I'm not sure what they think about our matchup.
