No Respect from the America East?
« on: December 02, 2009, 01:23:18 AM »
A few posts from the America East board I frequent

Stony Brook (5-1)
St. John's (5-0)
The Johnnies 5 wins: LIU +13, @St. Bonaventure +1, Brown +3, N-Siena +9, N-Temple +7
----
Now, here's the thing with SB-SJ. I know there's a lot of excitement around the Johnnies, and I actually hope they can turn it around. It's great having an energized NYC in college basketball. But those are five junk wins. If El-Amin plays (he's playing right?), this is a winnable game for the Brook.
----
Siena and Temple on back to back nights aren't the best of wins, for a Big East program.
----

Whats your reaction to this? Stony Brook doesnt even have any good wins for their 5-1 record.

stony brook beat:

maryland eastern shore 75-57
mount st marys 87-53
wagner 72-48
got waxed by rhode island 75-58
beat njit 60-46
then lehigh 71-52

if im correct i dont recall ANY of those teams being in the tourny last yr.. i think both temple andd siena were..ok those arent very good wins for say the uconns syracuses of the the big east but fo st johns they are good wins especially at the begining of the year..wins im pretty sure we wouldnt of got the previous few years

i hope stony brook knows that it really wont mean shit when we beat the hell out of them tonight

i'm getting excited by our wins this past weekend...after losing almost every game outside of nyc last year. those are quality wins considering where we were last year, and where we want to end up.

Of the 5 St Johns wins, all (even Brown ?) have current RPI's better than 240,
3 have current (will change fast early) 80 or better.

Stony Brooks wins:
1 vs a Div 2 school
3 vs teams w RPI's below 300
1 vs Lehigh #239

All meaningless this early, but I cant put them down.
Being from LI, I root for Stony Brook & Hofstra to do well.

And give them props, they just went D1  8-9(?) yrs ago,
and had their best year ever (RPI 173) last year.
Their first winning year, lost to Hofstra by just 5.
This year Hofstra had no room for them on schedule ? Hmmmmm ?

Backrim, maybe if Khalid El Amin plays.

if you don't think Siena and Temple ate quality wins,
Might I suggest that you start following the NCAA tournament?

It's where the nations top teams compete for a championship,
And where Siena, has taken out teams from the SEC and the Big Ten.
Temple is a strong team every year. Not just this year, but every year.
I don't know how anyone on the East Coast could not know that?
Stony Brook is off to a nice start for them. If we had lost to URI by 20,
this board would be up in arms.
Hey Poison, I think that's backrim quoting people on the A-East board, sarcasm's uncalled for there.

Can you believe these mediocre nothings?  Damn.

Stony Brook's wins have been against some of the absolute worst of Division I.  Lehigh, so far, is their best win.

Lehigh.  The mediocrity of the Patriot League.

The Mount St. Mary is NOT the NEC team that is actually a challenging team to play.  they played the one in Newburgh, NY - DIVISION III.

They're doing well, playing great defense, and they may be a challenge, but that's some delusional s**t right there that they're talking on their boards.  Please provide a link so I can smack fire out their ass.

more from AE posters

"This is a team that beat a bad Brown team by 3. You can't just cherry pick out the two decent wins ahead of the three closer than they should be wins. Stony Brook is better than Brown, St. Bonaventure and LIU."

That's the same guy.  He has a valid point there.  But I'm not sure that Brown is that bad.

Then again, they're not that good, and I don't know what the hell happened to the team in that one.

He's just upset they don't get cable in Maine. I'm surprised they have internet.  ;D

Seriously though boxscores are not always telling. Deeper rotations, the game was never really in doubt they clawed back in at the end, and we played poorly. All teams have had closer games in early November than they would have liked doesn't mean they are bad team much like blowout wins don't equal a great team.

Bottom line is any given night in 40 minutes one team can beat anther and no one is sleeping on Stony Brook.

What happened was we didnt play defense.
Brown scored 76 pts, shot 53%, 44% from 3.

Justin B played 12 min, had more fouls than points (2).

Since then the Defense & JB1 seems to have responded.

I agree. Thats why games are played on the court not computer rankings.
Stoney Brook can beat us tonight if we're not ready, and we could surprise Duke Sat

Their fans were pretty obnoxious. There was one guy sitting with a few brook fans in 44 jerseys. That doesn't make much sense. 44 is a number worn by schools that have had a person fit to wear it. See Jim Brown. Ernie Davis. Floyd Little.

Has the Brook ever had anyone outside from a very good math teacher?
