Do the Johnnies have a basketball game watch-zone in Manhattan?
« on: December 08, 2009, 09:00:51 PM »
I’m a SJU Alum (‘04 - Sports Management) and HUGE fan…In fact, my two brothers are SJU Alums and my sister in I was wondering if St. John’s has a watch-zone for Men’s Basketball in Manhattan…

If not, I’ll like to suggest Still (on 17th Street & 3rd Avenue).  I do have a bias because I bartend there part-time and another of our bartenders is also a SJU alum.  I’ve already had conversations with management and they would love to host the games.  The bar/restaurant has 4 large flat-screen TVs behind the bar, a giant projection screen on an adjacent wall and great specials.  They host already host a NFL team’s games and a college football team’s games, so they are an appropriate sports venue… I didn’t mention those teams’ names to prove my intention is to find out if a SJU watch-zone already exists and if not to propose a great option.

I hope that nobody perceives this as SPAM... I really am just a huge fan and I think it would be a great idea to have a place where SJU alum and fans can get together to root the Johnnies on in Manhattan… it really will boost the game watching experience.

My notes on tomorrows game for further proof…

I’ll base more of this game on what I saw against Duke…  I thought the story was about turnovers and rebounds, but I thought the guys showed a lot of hustle, resiliency, great athleticism and they made some big shots down the stretch.  Georgia is a smaller team so as long as they limit their turnover and convert on Georgia’s turnovers then they should win.  I like the addition of Brownlee, Hardy and Lawrence.  I’d be curious to see more of Malik Stith, but regardless I love our depth for the first time in a long time.  The returning guys are really talented (I’ve even been critical of Boothe before, but I like his play against Duke)… if Thomas and Mason can stay healthy and elevate their game we’ll be a Big East title contender.

Go Johnnies!

good idea, but i also think Stout is an SJU bar (owner is a graduate) but so close to MSG that all teams go there.

Stout is such a St.John's bar that the basketball Program holds pre season functions there in the broom closet.

LOL @ Poison.  The only way they're a St. John's bar is the fact that they've got one of our banners inside there.  I usually go there before games and events at MSG but it's usually packed beyond belief.  Tough meeting up with people in there.

Stout is really the best bar in the area.
If they're not showing soccer, Foley's is pretty good, too.

Well I know Joe O's is owned by a St. John's alum. It's right across the street from Stout I believe.

Also I was always partial to the Blarney Rock when I was in school. The bartenders rock St. John's shirts on game days.

Stout IS a great bar.  It's just a complete zoo.  Blarney Rock is not bad either.  Never been in Joe O's before a game.

Stout is nuts. You can bet it will be with the Uconn fans coming to city for the night.
Too bad there isn't an Applebees, or TGIFridays for them to infiltrate.

It's a bit further away from MSG, but Legends is a pretty good bar. Not sure how it is when an event is going on at MSG, but it's a fun sports bar.

To the underagers....Molly Wee's is a block away from the Garden (30th and 8th) and they never card you...I'm honestly not too sure what the bar scene is like for the st johns games, but i know basically every bar in the area is alotta fun during the ranger games

I'm not sure. I haven't been to any bars in that area in a while. Last time I was there was for a graduation party back in '07.

Well you've got the ear of the right guy.  Dave can put together a great pre-game Magic Hat party when he's so moved.

I got a great Magic Hat frisbee as a door prize at the last one. It wasn't one of those chincy promotional frisbees like you get from a radio station or something. It's like a real ultimate frisbee.
