Point Guard Play
« on: December 09, 2009, 09:06:00 PM »
I think we all have to take it easy on Boothe. He plays hard, he pushes the ball well, and he D's up.  He is what he is and he's never going to be John Wall.

I think we end the season giving 20 mins to Boothe, 10-12 to Sith, and run with Hardy and DJ for the other 8-10--which may be our best offensive approach.

Boothe made a lot of good passes tonight that led to assists or should-have-been assists by others on the break.  I have full confidence in his breaking of a press by himself.  Let's just get off his back a little and let him play.

7-1 baby!  Siena-Temple-St. Bonaventure-Georgia look a lot better than the NEC championship we started with last year.

Boothe is awful, everytime he comes back in our lead disappears

I like Boothe and he has done a decent job for us so far. The ENTIRE TEAM is so damn sloppy with the ball. All of them!!! When the competion gets tougher possessions are going to be critical. We have to do a better job.

Why is Boothe pushing the ball up the cour when we're up 10/12 points under 2 mins? We should have won this game by 16

Boothe can't shoot, defend, and commits too many turnovers.  What else needs to be said?

Did not see the game but will watch it in the morning. I don't think that Boothe's D is that bad. He is not a scoring PG but distributes well and he has be clutch late in games at the FT line.

He's playing hard, but out of control, and there is no system, other run as fast as you can. Worked against the Bonnies. Not needed here.

It's getting hard to defend Boothe. I've been sitting here thinking of alternative lineups. I'm not sure Stith is ready to take over the reigns and I'm not sure I like Hardy coming in because I prefer him off the bench. I do think a big lineup of Burrell/Coker, Evans, Mason, Horne, Kennedy would work.

Boothe does do a good job of keeping tempo but he's been making poor decisions. If he's going to be a floor general he needs to limit his mistakes like he did against Duke.

Doody, what do you mean Boothe can't defend?  He is a very good defender IMO.  He's physical, and he stays with his man.  He's awesome defending the break and helping when bigs bring the ball low in the lane.  Our bigs (other than Dele) just don't fill when a man gets a step on one of our guards.

As for his shot, it sucks but he only takes a few and he's hit them the last few games.  I like Stith, but I just don't see him being a major contributor in terms of minutes this year.

We all said Boothe would be a solid backup point and that is really what he is becoming with Hardy and DJ settling into key roles offensively.

Let's just not turn him into our 2009-2010 whipping boy.  Nobody expects him to be an all-american.

yeah, but no one expects him to try to drive the lane into 3 collapsing bulldogs, yet he does it anyway. and turn the ball over.

thats just bad decision making. he isn't dwayne wade. hes not gunna make a shot against 3 defenders driving from the foul line.

he needs to move the ball, limit turnovers, and take open shots. the overagressive/eager drives are not needed.

I'm with Dave on this, I can't stick up for Boothe anymore.  His decision making is atrocious and he doesn't bring much to the floor with the exception of toughness.

I think we need to have Hardy play "point" and bring the ball up the floor, then run the offense through DJ and let Hardy be our shooter off the ball.

theoffspring447, I thought Boothe made a good play on the play you are referring to.  If you are going to make mistakes, make them being aggressive.  He took it hard and wrapped the pass to DJ (I believe) which was dropped.  Not really his fault.  Was it a perfect play?  Obviously not, but it's great to see our guys finally taking it to th basket.

Like it or not, we need this kid for 20 mpg this year.  Complaining about every perceived mistake he makes isn't going to help anyone.  I really don't think he's playing that badly.  According to Yahoo, Sith hasn't hit a three pointer yet, so it's not like we are keeing a future pro on the bench in favor of Boothe.

i dont mind boothes lack of scoring, just dont turn the ball over. DJ has the size for curling, offbalance passes, boothe should keep the passes simple.

We are in a bit of a pickle with and without boothe on the floor. With him, i think teams will employ lots of zone and leave him open at the top. Without him, i think teams will press hardy and dj and horne and we may have trouble getting the ball up the floor and cause killer turnovers.

I think Boothe should continue to start but yank him early and often, he dribbles too much and everyone seems to stand around when hes out there

if norm is thinking of getting in another player next year, we need a solid juco PG.  it's really the only way for this team to really get better.

My God man I think you like crappy point guards even more than pasty face connecticut women basketball stars! Arnold Jackson brings nothing to the table. I would let Hardy/Kennedy handle the playmaking and let Boothe worry about making sure he and Dudley don't get molested by the guy from WKRP!
