St. John's vs Fordham Post Game Discussion

If the Student section really wants to gain power the right way, they should write a formal letter to Billy Singleton, asking him how they could become a relevant part of the program.

Coach K talks to his student section. At 8-1, maybe it's time to approach someone in the athletic dept. Start somewhere. If you're a student, stand up.

I tried this last year. I was heckling the St. Francis bench, with not a single curse word leaving my mouth, and was taken to a back room by public safety saying next time I'm gonna be thrown out. Myself and the rest of the student section sat down for the entire rest of the game and refused to cheer. After the game I went to find Norm and the staff, and I found Burrell and he brought me straight up to the coaches. I explained everything to Norm, Billy Singleton, and talked with Coach Q for about 45 minutes. All I got out of that little meeting was Norm and Singleton saying they'll take care of it, and Coach Q telling me we should just focus on positive cheering for our team instead of worrying about heckling the other team.

About the douchebag chant...its not like the a$$hole chant where we just chant it in succession...We start of saying "who brought the...." and then everyone points and says "dochebag douchebag douchebag"...thats not creative?

One way I think that the student section could improve is to get the kids who sit in the section closest to the St. John's bench who cheer loud and bring them to the other side.  Having all the rowdy people in one section will project the noise better and make it easier to organize loud group chants. 

Another problem is the kids who are in the student section who sit on their hands and just take up space.  I feel if we could somehow separate these two groups and put the people who just want to quietly watch the game on one side and the people who want to stand, cheer and participate in the chants on the other side we would have a much more rowdy and hostile environment. 

I'm pretty sure we are one of the only schools who have a split student section and if we had the number of people and the amount of vocal people necessary to successfully execute the split student section it would be doubly intimidating, but until we get that I think one real loud section is better than two dull ones.

This is pretty much how it was for the first 2 home games this year, and it was terrible. One side would cheer and the other side didnt know what to do and just sat there and didnt do anything. Then we decided to split it up and have some regulars on the other sdie near our bench and I think its helped alot because both sides actually stand and cheer now.

I know this thread has turned into ridiculing the administration and more talk about our fans, but IMO the student section thus far has been far better than the previous 2 years. We're actually filling both sides of the student section and cheering the whole game against these cupcake teams

thats a great idea, i think we should try it, its going to be hard to take the people sitting there and go hey go to the other side you dont stand and make noise, getting the loud people together shouldnt be that hard but it will be cause its sju's fans when are we ever organized, but we should still try it

On a side note, those of you students who got your MSG tix, are the student sections split again this year or are all the tickets for one section or side like they should be.  I'm in section 11 again this year and I know a lot of students had tix on the opposite side of the court last year.

The leader of redzone told me "facilities" told her that if we curse one more time, we were all gonna be kicked out and not allowed back in for any more games...public safety has backed off alot since last year, now this falls strictly with the st johns administration...when we went to west virginia for the mens soccer big east championship we werent even allowed to chant anything with "sucks" in it because we're "representing st johns"...is this just me being a college student or is that a little ridiculous?

On a side note, those of you students who got your MSG tix, are the student sections split again this year or are all the tickets for one section or side like they should be.  I'm in section 11 again this year and I know a lot of students had tix on the opposite side of the court last year.

I was told that we have tickets in section 11, 12, and part of 22...theres about 200 seats in each section and about 400 student season tickets...they said that they got rid of the season tickets that were on the court level behind the student section...so basically, if theres regular joe's in the student seats, its because students sold their tickets...i was told we should be allowed to stand this year without any problems, but we'll see what happens...we tried getting general admission tickets for the MSG games, but MSG security denied it about a month or 2 ago

The We Are... St.John's was brought back from the dead.

That, they got right. No protests against that.

P.S. I consider myself a friend of the jungle and a kindred spirit.  However, the use of "douchebag" and "a$$hole" are inappropriate.  I often bring my wife, small children and sometimes even my senior citizen mother to the games.

We have 400 student season ticket holders?? Do they just pay for tickets and not go to the games? There'sno way its that many.
And untill i see that st johns made a real student section at MSG i'm still thinking we'll all be split up and have regular people behind us telling us to sit down

You’re absolutely right, I’m real happy with the involvement and interest the students are showing. And hats off to the kids at the SJU bench end when they pointed to us in the stands and chanted “we can’t hear you!” Some of us old timers tend to doze off and nap during the games. Thanks for keeping us on our toes and in the game!

I had a discussion with Monasch last season after one game where guys were removed and scolded, and since then I thought they got PS to chill a bit. I’ll speak with him tomorrow and see what we can get resolved. Maybe a sitdown is in order.

So what is the answer?  Is it possible for the student body to be loud, into it and disruptive to the opposition without the use of profanity?

I believe that it is and that it is a noble goal as well.

Kev, last year we sold nearly 800 student season tickets lol...so many freshmen just sign up during orientation, their parents buy the tickets and they dont go. Alot of people dont even pick up their season tickets. I agree, I still have a feeling there's gonna be problems at MSG, but we'll see i guess

RSHF...I think they were chanting that to the few fordham fans sitting up in that general direction haha. But i do wish the fans would get into the games and actually stand up and cheer at times that don't include a t-shirt toss

Icewater, the students and alumni buy tickets and skip games.
It's not about money. It's about self respect.

I can understand alumni having tickets and not coming to games especially in Queens because its  a pain getting there but if your a student and paid for the tickets and live in the dorms what are you doing? studying?haha

Also st johns should do the free bus trips to MSG for games because i think that got more students to go

we can't afford to alienate any of our small fan base, but it really needs to be an environment directed toward student aged fans. we obviously have different standards, but there is a line and i dont think we are anywhere close to crossing it.

they do the bus trips only when it really interests them like the aeropostale classic last year where they wanted everyone in msg and to wear red, that game i convinced about 7 people to go who wouldnt go to 1 msg game by subway with me,... and as far as studying thats no excuse whats 3 hours a week
