The play came early but the impact was lasting.

Midway through the first half of St. John's 73-56 victory over Fordham Sunday, Justin Brownlee threw down a monster jam from the left block, rattling the rim and then swinging on it for a few moments as the Red Storm took a 10-point lead at Carnesecca Arena.

As soon as his feet hit the floor, the junior forward was above the rim again, only this time at the other end of the floor.

I agree he has been great. Much better then advertised for once. I think  he is great in his role. If he is playing good which he has been he usually finishes games. I think he could play the 3 if needed but we have plenty of wing players.

He might be the least hyped SJU recruit ever.
People were complaining when he signed.

he is great in the role he has been given, but he has trouble staying with guys on defense. if he works on this we could play scary big.

I thought Brownlee's position was supposed to be SF.  But he's playing big because of the team's depth issues.

I think the complaints mostly centered around signing yet another player for an already monster-sized class. A lot people also couldn't wrap their minds around the fact that he was the 10th-ranked juco, but was coming off the bench last season.

I would not like to see Brownlee at SF at all.  I love what he provides for the team in terms of doing things that nobody else really does--shot blocks (other than Coker), tip-ins galore/offensive rebounds, and he owns the baseline--which I think will end a game or two before the season is over.  He also has good hands for boards and active hands/good length on defense.  Him and Mase on the floor together with Hardy could really frustrate opponents and cause a lot of turnovers.

I would like to see him do what he does best and not try to be a SF or outside shooter.  He and Evans both try to do too much at times and it really hurts the team.
