Harris continues college campus tour with unofficial visit to SJU
Tobias Harris checked in on St. John’s and Norm Roberts’ program today as he made an unofficial visit to the Queens campus. Harris also has been to West Virginia and the University of Virginia in recent days, participating in their elite camps.
“Tobias…came away very impressed with what coach Norm Roberts is doing at St.John’s,†according to his father, Torrel Harris Sr. “Tobias stated to me it looks like coach Roberts is really trying his best to get St.John’s back to the elite level,†Mr. Harris informed the NBE Basketball Report.
St. John’s and West Virginia are far from the only Big East schools interested in the skills of the 2010 elite prospect. The 6-foot-8, 215 lb small forward from Half Hollows Hills West High School on Long Island (NY) received phone calls from Connecticut, Syracuse, Notre Dame, Louisville, Rutgers and Providence in addition to St. John’s and West Virginia shortly after college coaches were allowed to call on 2010 recruits beginning June 15th. Virginia, Maryland, NC State, Wake Forest, Florida, South Carolina, Texas and Memphis also placed calls as soon as they could.
But getting Tobias on campus was definitely a positive step for St. John’s and they strengthened their position with him according to his father, “The school is doing lots of construction to improve the lifestyle of the school.â€
And, coach Roberts and his vision for his program also impressed the Harris family. “It seems like Coach Roberts has a great plan for his young team to improve each day in order for St. John’s University to get to that next level,†Mr. Harris remarked.
The stop at St. John’s and the trip to WVU is all part of a Busy Summer for Harris(zagsblog.net) that has also included the stop at Virginia, an earlier stop at Kansas and, at least, planned upcoming trips to Indiana, Louisville, Marquette, Rutgers, Maryland, Florida, Connecticut, Arizona, Memphis and Syracuse.
