What can WE do for our program?
« on: January 21, 2010, 09:51:33 AM »
This is slightly premature, and I am not suggesting doing anything at the Nova game - or anything in the month of January for that matter.

My question is, if this team continues to free fall, what can we do as fans, collectively, in year 6 to make it known to the admin, LOUD AND CLEAR, that we believe we need a new coach?

I'm sure there will be plenty of ideas, but we should want it to be effective but tasteful - don't want to shout fire norm in warm ups and get the players off their game before a big win.

The website and writing letters are great...but seem ineffective...unless we can do it on a larger scale.

What are our ideas?  We should be prepared with something to do, as a group, if the time comes in Feb and it is obvious we need to be heard that a regime change is necessary.

I think we should protest during Brandon Tierney's appearance on campus.

I'm not a fan of doing anything during the season especially in games. The kids work hard and shouldn't be subject to boo's and negative chants. It's not their fault.

What if the boos are directed to the coach only?  You know as well as anyone, Dave, that this administration is happy to let the program be mediocre.  Don't you think it's our duty to do all we can if it comes to a point this year where it is obvious we have no shot at the NCAA, in year 6 of Norm's tenure?  I respect your opinion to not do anything in games, but you wouldn't do anything at all, and just hope the word can get out after?

I think send a certified letter to Chris Monasch or Father Harrington. Make it a professional and well thought out letter that indicates all of the program's short comings.

People will boo.  It'll happen.  But the notion that there's an organized action that fans can take that will make the AD and administration see the light... I worry just as much if those decision-makers are easily swayed by the whims and anger of pitchfork-wielding fans.  They should be smart enough to be able to analyze the performance and see what they're not getting.

That said, I have no strong problem with it - it's part of the game as a coach.  I wouldn't do it, but I'm not you!

You don't think this has been done?

Most likely by a few individuals here and there but if he got mail bags like Santa Clause then it speaks more volumes. I'd hate to be interrupted by the mail man on a daily basis saying here's another letter for you.

don't they have fraternaties on campus anymore?  any other organizations? aren't there dorms now where people can be recruited? the frats and organizations  should band together and figure out how to get 500 loud people with posters at the tierney event.

i guess the students are weak compared to when i went to school.  i mean really lazy, weak and soft..

If, I'm not mistaken....  That was already done.  Now, it's time move in another direction on this situation.

See if anyone can get actual torches and pitchforks.  That might be funny in the stands, if the person holding them's not kicked out.

You don't boo, or say anything in front of our players until they are eliminated from the NCAA and NIT. Meaning, they are 4-12 in the BE.

After that, sure, it would make a lot of sense to let Roberts know that his days are over here.

Usually a coach's fate is determined about 2 days after the season or so.  Not enough time to organize a rally between the end of the season and when (most) decisions are made by administrations.  I really think we need to do something during the year.  A protest in Marillac during the Brandon Tierny show would give us visibility.

we have enough trouble getting people to go to games, let alone commit to changing the program.

i think the best option would be to draft a st. johns basketball 95 thesis signed by as many people as possible, send it to the ad, hang it up on the bulliten board outside montgoris, and on the church

If you're a donor, you don't have to be abrasive and threaten to not give, but rather if you have not done so, let someone in the donor department know how you feel about the program.

This should get someone's attention.

There are hungry children all over the world. Plenty of worthy causes to donate too.
