Do High School players even know who Chris Mullin is?

It's more likely they know who Mullin is than Jim Baron, no?

I meant I am not sure a Chris Mullin or a Mark Jackson would want to deal with AAU coaches and everything else that goes with recruiting. They are both millionaire former all star NBA players, do they really want to be kissing a$$ and whatever else they would have to do to get some 17 year old kid to play for them?

Danny Manning seems to be doing pretty well with it.

Frank is very charismatic too. I always enjoy listening to him talk and he knows his x's and o's. He got a raw deal in NJ and the Nets are just a poorly ran franchise.

Off the top of my head I can't think of any other NCAA coaches that were as successful NBA players as Mullin or Jackson

I know you were joking but I thought of him. Drexler, Ruland, Reggie Theus. Isiah Thomas is coaching now as well.

I bet the powers that be (making decisions) would think NBA guys will leave for the next pro opportunity.

And everyone could post their best "Lawrence Frank is SO SHORT" jokes.  I do think there would be some "buzz" if St. John's hired a former NBA head coach (who had some success).  And no ownership situation would hamstring his ability to get players!

Isiah, Drexler, Mullin, Jackson in that order.

Larry Brown I think made an ABA all star team and John Wooden played in the NBL OR SOMETHING.

I assume that if they take the job they'd want to excel? So they'd have to do what they'd have to do. Pitino's rich and successful, he grovels fine. That being said, I don't think either one is a serious candidate.

Just for argument sake say Norm is fired after the season. My gut says Pecora is our next coach.

its hard to say whos going to make a good coach or whos going to be able to convince 16-18 yr old kids to come to this school...right now, i think if we can steal someone with nba coaching experience we get him...as far as mid major level coaches, baron wouldnt be a bad hire but considering our situation,  fran mccaffery would be a much better choice...but recruiting is everything, so the biggest name you can get, get...and if he has a decent basketball IQ (unlike norm), hopefully he develops as a coach
