yea, it really is...which is why i have signed onto this site about 90% less this year than previous years...idk if im a bad fan or not now, but i just am losing interest...same stuff every year, same problems, same recruiting woes, same attitude, same style of play, same blowouts, same missed expectations...and no change is wished by the admin...i still watch the games and root for st johns and i have been a very hardcore fan since 2003, which is saying alot, bc this team has never given me anything to root for really, besides always rooting for the underdog, which after 6 years, finally loses its appeal...now though, i think i have finally hit bottom in terms of caring...until there is a new coach and a new attitude from the admin in terms of measuring success, i just wont be into st johns basketball nearly as much as i was...continued on this road for another few years and i think ill literally just be picking up a paper and looking at what the final score of st johns games are

You know that the last 10 games are easier.

Not that this team will impress, but outside of Syracuse and West Virginia (and probably Notre Dame), none of the games are actually impossible.  So before we decide this is the team's level, know that they have a good chance to NOT end up 14th.

Very true. 2 and 6 yes, but 4 losses to top 20 teams, 3 on the road. Odd how many of the same people whose mantra is that Norm's an inexperienced nice person who can't coach his lousy recruits who aren't even BE caliber go all sky-is-falling when we lose by a couple of baskets to # 17 Pitt on the road.

Rutgers and Depaul are pretty bad, so even though we will only win 2 or 3 games I can't see us dropping below 14. So stop being so negative.

You said we have a chance NOT to finish 14th. Well I don't think we will finish 15 or 16th. 14 seems about right though.

Come on Peter.  Did you forget the loss to Providence at CA that we should have had locked up?  Howabout Louisville?  Howabout the Cincy "win" we prob shouldn't have won.  Cornell?  We just AREN'T VERY GOOD.

We lose in the same fashion game after game after game.  When you lose in the same way all the time, why should we believe we do anything different?

You're right, maybe we could go 5-5, or 6-4 (when pigs fly), but MAYBE we could go 0-10?  Beating South Florida or Seton Hall is just as likely as losing to Rutgers, in my opinion.

My guess, as I've said before, we win 2 more games (Rutgers and DePaul).  That's it.

Kid, there's nothing in what I said that doesn't go with the idea that St. John's isn't very good.  But that doesn't mean the team doesn't have a chance in most of the rest of the games against the soft middle and easy bottom of the league.  You have to look at the team realistically, and know that Jamie Dixon's club is very good, Villanova's very good, U Conn is very talented.  And the team played Louisville and Pitt on the road.

In fact, those who want a change should worry about this.  Some people evaluate a team simply by their record and their winning streaks.  If the team wins 7/8 in conference, they're better, right?  If they go 6-4 over their last 10 games, the narrative can be that the team "came together and battled" and "are really coming around", ignoring the fact that the team just couldn't compete for 40 minutes with the leagues top 6 teams.  But with that narrative, there's less clamor for a change, because the newspaper writers and administration will point at the record and say the Red Storm are at the middle of the pack, which was a realistic goal.

Our offense is so limited, for us to win any game we almost have to be perfect on D. Good teams, bad teams it doesn't really matter. I have us beating Rutgers, but I think it will be close and I would not be shocked if we lost. If any team hits some shots against us we will be in trouble. Two, three at the most wins the rest of the way for us.

if we evaluate based on record and finish in the league, we are doing poorly...if we evaluate based on realistic goals based on our talent level each year, then we are always going to be around expectations bc norm will never recruit a class that will be expected to finish in the top 10
