Its also the A.D. responsibility to manage that 5 mill budget properly and get the bang for the buck..We are supposed to be a big east school..how is apparel sales doing? Can you purchase apparel with ease..you can walk into any HD or Lowe's in the southeast and get UNC Or DUke gear, nevermind Dicks sporting goods..you can get that gear in NYC..
For someone who claims to be wired into the sports world, you ask a lot of questions, most of them stupid. Saint John's doesn't manufacture and sell sweat shirts, it licenses its name and logo, which licensing fee is miniscule compared to the sports budget, at SJ, DoOk, and everywhere else.
With a recession and 95% of A.D. cutting expenses, just to break even, I ask how has Monasch fared compared to the rest???
Why are you asking me how Monasch is doing? You claim that he's getting fired within the next couple of weeks. Obviously he's doing poorly enough that it's a matter of discussion in Roy Williams office late at night.
Maybe with a superb bb program applications would be up, which in turn can help a university charge more..
There were 50 thousand applicants at SJ last year -- more than double the number of applicants at DoOk (23 thousand). Tuition at DeWk (38K) is higher than at SJ, by about $10K per year. So much for that theory. And in any event tuition increases at SJ and everywhere else are inexorably tied to the easy availability of government sponsored student loans. What they're not tied to is the success of the basketball team -- unless you can point to a school with a lousy team that's recently lowered its tuition? I thought not.
which in turn would of provided for the school to have not had to send out letters to staff to reduce overhead.
Didn't you just say that 95 percent of ADs were cutting expenses because there's a recession? Are you suggesting that only at SJ reductions are due to the BB team's won loss record? Because that would be the stupidest theory you've come up with, well, today anyway.
Donations are off significantly at STJ..
Saint John's endowment fund was down 10 percent in 2009. DeWk's was down 25 percent. UNC's was down 20 percent. Oops. Facts can be pesky things, can't they.
If donations are off significantly - and I don't know that they are - they're off because the unemployment rate is 10 percent and the market crashed. SJ just finished a fund raising initative where they raised some ungodly amount of money, all of it during the Jarvis/Roberts era.
Maybe before you dump some money into carnesseca, practice facility, and other upgrades, you may want to have a quality product to sell to the public?? You may even want a quality product prior to moving season ticket holders seats around.
You also may not want to piss off the management of MSG where you play your home games. You may also not want to spend a bucket of money on a P.R. firm that failed to promote your school...
Back in the day..Dads knew the name STJ, not because of academics, but because of the basketball team..the legends who took the court..and when their kids came home with college decisions, they knew the name STJ..
A laundry list of stupid questions, maybes, mays, and may nots, leading to a wildly speculative conclusion. You make Jason Blair look credible.
