Just when you thought St. John's had mastered every excruciating technique for losing a basketball game, the Red Storm came up with a brutal new masterpiece Saturday.
The Johnnies' collapse against No. 6 West Virginia was so dreadful, it had to be seen to be believed. The Storm suffered a staggering 35-point swing in the second half. Though the Johnnies led by 16 points with about 18 minutes to play, the Mountaineers dismantled them, 79-60, before 6,157 at the Garden.
West Virginia scored 57 points on 63% shooting after halftime to win its 10th straight meeting with St. John's. The Storm, which last beat the Mountaineers on Jan. 5, 2002, pulled its biggest fold of the season to extend its losing streak to five games.
