Roberts has done all he can for the Men's program [The Torch]

If St. John's chose to fire men's basketball coach Norm Roberts and his staff, I'd certainly understand.

The Red Storm lost to unranked Rutgers and to then-No. 6 West Virginia by 19 last week after blowing an 11-point halftime lead. If that wasn't enough, the team
allowed two 33-point solo performances by the Scarlet Knights' Mike Rosario and the Mountaineers' De'Sean Butler and is currently in the midst of a five-game losing streak.

On numerous occasions this season, the Johnnies have stayed competitive with some of the top teams in the Big East - they did, after all, lead by as many as 13 points Saturday against the Mountaineers early in the second half. Yet somewhere around the 12-minute mark, everything falls apart for the Red Storm and they find a way to lose.

Too soft.

Uncalled for to chant "Fire Robets"?  C'mon.

If the writer is trying to imply that we have not suffered any further NCAA violations, arrests or simple, yet harmless crimes, then he's right.

At this point, the writer is dead on with the title of his article "Roberts has done all he can" because clearly he has.

The blame now should ride on the shoulders of those who supported him after the NCAA cleared us, and after he had been given a fair amount of time to recruit his own players without a dark cloud hanging over him. I don't believe that ridiculing Ron Rutledge or Lou C for supporting Norm is entirely fair. Were they wrong? Obviously.

That said, the bargain high-upside coach has failed, and now it's time to stop f'cking around, and hire a proven winner.

"Roberts took on the toughest rebuilding project in the nation with his first head coaching job at the Division I level and, though he is 76-95 all-time at St. John's and just 28-66 in Big East play, he has in no way been a failure at the school."

I'm definitely writing a letter to the editor about this.

I guess winning has nothing to do with success.

SJU, where cleanliness if more important than success.

This is NY. Getting kids to stay home should be easy.
You have to be considered a complete nice person to chase them away at the rate Norm does.

And for the record, I'm too embarrassed to tell anyone that doesn't already know that I'm an SJU fan. I've always been embarrassed to be associated with the school, but now I'm starting to develop an intense hatred for a things SJU.

But the Torch is subject to funding from the school, right?

How harsh do you want them to get?  I'm sure they like [to continue] writing for the Torch.

"Roberts took on the toughest rebuilding project in the nation ..."

This part of the article is definitely incorrect.  The writer must not remember what happened at Baylor when a player MURDERED another player and then the coach tried to cover it up.

That's A LOT worse than a few players going to a strip club and 1 of our bench players being paid.  And yet Scott Drew has already taken Baylor to the NCAA tourny.

Not only wasn't it the worst, there are far more difficult fix ups than this one.

URI and Iona can't claim the BE and MSG as a selling point,
but somehow a coach came in, and fixed what was wrong.

Fordham won two games under Hill the year before he was fired.
Seems like a much bigger hill to climb there.

Still, the point shouldn't be how hard is it to rebuild, because we always we the sleeping giant.
Only a complete ass would lose every top 50 recruit.
