Jackson might do very well here, but he is a risk.
I do feel that he is still a name, and his stellar NBA career is impressive.

But no coaching experience is a risk I don't want to take.
We went the cost-effective high upside route with Norm.

Let's not do it again.

Here is the video from Loudmouths

Completely disagree with Carlin.  I understand that Mark Jackson has more of a name than Fran McCaffery, Seth Greenberg, Jim Baron, and Kevin Willard, but the fact remains he has never coached at the college or professional level.  He has never put together a staff, recruited a player, or balanced a scholarship situation.  And let's face facts ... everyone always prefaces Norm's situation with "he cleaned up the program."  Really?  There has been more transfers out of this school than I can ever remember.  And we have 9 players graduating next year.  Maybe he cleaned up the name of the program, but this school is still going to be handicapped for years to come because of his incompetence.  Is Jackson really the person that should be coming in and handling such a messed up situation?  Or should they focus on someone who actually has a step-by-step solution to the problem.

This reminds me so much of the Tim Brown situation.  When Brown retired from the NFL, he wanted to go into coaching, but outright refused a behind the scenes job.  He basically wanted to be an offensive coordinator immediately after his retirement.  It just showed his unwillingness to go through the steps to becoming a head coach.  And I'm sorry to say, but that is what Jackson is showing me right now.  Take a page out of Patrick Ewing's book and learn everything before you volunteer.

I'd greatly prefer taking a chance on Jax than Jim Baron.  Baron has never gotten over the hump.  NO thanks.  I'd take Fran, Seth, and Willard first though for sure.

Seth Greenberg's VaTech wins every year.
He's not Rick Pitino, but his kids can play.

Seth would be a fantastic choice.

Greenberg would be good, but would a Catholic school hire a Jewish coach?

I think this is a ridiculoius question.  Monasch is jewish.  Who cares the religion of the coach?

Why don't we just bring back Lou and have Mark Jackson as his assistant?  :D

obviously we dont know the interest level of these coaches we are talking about, but hypothetically, if each would take the st johns job if offered, unless a big name candidate arises out of nowhere, which seems unlikely this year, or unless the administration truly is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yMpsttlXye8&feature=relateded enough to hire another unknown, i dont see how they wouldnt go with Greenberg...the guy is proven as both a coach and a recruiter...there is no way vt should have gotten many of the recruits they have under Greenberg and there is no way those recruits should have that team 3rd in the ACC this year...i think you bring him in and we get consistent 4 star recruits and the occasional 5 star, and while you cant assume success in a league like this, you would have to assume we would at least be relevant and competitive again...the question though is, after making a habit out of being stupid and making poor decisions, can this administration do anything positive even if they are really trying

Mark Jackson is a winner, but he could be a disastrous hire.  I have no doubt that Mark could be successful in just about any field, because he is smart and has the desire.

With that written, I wouldn't want him to peform surgery on me tomorrow.
Comprende?

Dude needs experience.  Simple as that.

The way mark jackson is an acceptable hire is if pete gillen or other VERY experienced coaches act as his assistant coaches.  That's the only way I'd be cool with it - and I don't think its a bad idea bc mark is a smart pg - can't compare him to clyde - and I think he has the stuff to be a very good coach.

Norm was a smart PG too.

Jim Christian  TCU then?-   i actually thought the same thing marco.  didn't know monasch was jewish.  maybe it would have made a difference years ago, not today.
