I am done.  That would signal to me that we have no desire to win, we just want to remain a mickey mouse organization who gives trophies to all participants!  If he's not fired after six years with no ncaas, what's the point of following them?  It would be a huge slap in the face to any fan remaining.

 I heard on the radio this morning that the entire team went to Monasch's office yesterday to plead for Norm's job.  This could get interesting.

They are just loyal kids doing something for a man they respect.  In a year they will all be gone.  The decision needs to be made for the future of st johns.  Next year is too late.

Monasch has never listened to the fans, hope he gives the players the same treatment. This should not save someones job.  ND players wanted weis to stay too and they didn't listen. Then again ND actually has a big time athletic program unlike our mickey mouse operation...

  Exactly!  This is what makes me nervous.  Nothing surprises me anymore.  I won't feel comfortable till this thing is official.

Not to sound like a Watergate reporter, but it seems possible that Norm's camp leaked initial info and Lenn Robbins got verfication off the record. This gives Norm a last gasp, after enlisting team and some media support. All in all this matter has been handled in an amateur way in my opinion.

You're right on point with that statement.  They are use to losing and probably, have a built-in (albeit, it's probably subconscious) losers mentality.  They do not want change and would rather deal with the status quo since most of 'em only have one more season left at St. John's.

We can't sit on our hands at the moment and let the powers that be decisions be swayed by the asylum.  One more year with Norm and we can put the death knell into the program.

Trusting Norm with 8 scholarships is like putting my car keys into my 8 year old son's hands and allow him to drive to school....  Insane and suicidal!

I'm starting to think this thing isn't over and I don't like this feeling.  Nevertheless, I'm completely done with this program, if they retain Norm.

There would literally be a riot and I would not like to be Norm on Opening Night next season.  If he doesn't get fired, he should resign.

The funny thing is that these are the same kids that will benefit from a new coach.

We will underachieve next year with Norm if he is allowed to come back.  We have done that every year he has been here.

We lost thirteen conference games with the most experienced roster in the league!!! We lost with five three-year starters!!! Does that mean anything to anyone?

I think he has to be fired now, just for the fact that St Johns will only have 5 players on scholarship in 2011, if you count Ron Roberts. If next season goes the same as this season with Norm as head coach and they actually fire him, you are only giving the new coach 4 to 5 months to fill 8 scholarship spots. Even though Norm could recruit players there is no guarantee the players he recruited will stay with St Johns (i.e. Ron Roberts)

I really do feel bad for the kids here.  Most of them genuinely love him, and it's a tough situation for them.  However, this is business, and Chris Monasch must operate on a higher level when the kids come pleading to him.  Roberts and his staff hasn't gotten the job done here, and Monasch needs to make the correct (even if it's heartbreaking to the kids) decision.

I'm not that worried about Norm being back. There's a whole lotta smoke out there and usually as we all know where there's smoke there's fire.

My guess is that they were planning on firing Norm as soon as we lost the Big East tournament but after we beat Yukon, the possibility of an NIT bid arose. The administration went to Norm and asked him if he wanted to coach his kids in the NIT if we got a bid, and he said yes. He will be let go after the NIT, of course the danger is if somehow we win the thing then it could get interesting. I know it's not usually done this way, but this situation seems a bit different, anyway that's just my guess.

considering that there was rumors fran mccaffery turned us down, maybe the admin is simply going around, gauging interest in the job, seeing who they could get, and only after seeing that someone is interested and is a definite upgrade over norm, will they fire norm

This is exactly what I thought. If they realize they won't be able to get McCaffery, Greenberg or whoever they want, they might just keep Norm.

Consider, please, that few coaches want to be associated with another job while they're in a high-reward situation like the NCAA Tournament or a conference tourney.  Coaches backtrack on their words all the time.  It's not straightforwardly honest in all cases, but it's important not to be a distraction for a coach's team OR in the minds of the 18-23 (or 24) year olds they need to keep keenly motivated.

Also, keeping Norm after that information gets out means the hottest seat for him.  Which means he can't sign anyone unless he gets lucky.  Even if you think the administration is stupid, they wouldn't be that dumb.  I think.

An example of this is Ernie Kent at Oregon.  No one signed for next year but he graduates Tajuan Porter and Joevan Catron.
