Knight to St.John's?
« on: March 17, 2010, 09:27:41 AM »
According to his son.  The General wants to coach again. Says st.john's or Rutgers would be idiotic not to make the phone call.

Could be a great move or totally backfire.  Returning nine seniors who are used to being totally coddled by norm and are used to losing, they could either all be inspired for a year...or not be able to take a "real" coach.  I'd be inclined to think they'd play great for him, just putting out both sides.

Other problem is, I don't know that I want knight recruiting the 9 ships. He is a short term coach and will studs really wanna sign up for that uncertainty?

To be confident with this as more than a short term fix, I'd need him to organize an awesome group of assistants - maybe including mark jackson or tim cluess.

Interesting to say the least. I think he'd do wonders with this current team, but I agree with Tha Kid. What about the long-term effects, especially with 9 spots to fill. Not really sure I'm on board with the idea.

Yes do tell.  How many players has he sent to the NBA lottery - or have been successful pros - in the last 20 years?  0? 1?

Calbert Cheaney is the most successful Indiana basketball player I can think of in the last 20 years.  How many years did he play in the NBA?

Poison, what players are you thinking of?  Isaiah Thomas?

Sorry, I forgot Andrae Patterson, A.J. Guyton, Greg Graham, Dean Garrett, Brian Evans, and Eric Anderson.  What studs.

Only one I can think of from texas tech is Andre Emmett...and he's in Belgium now.

Did any of these guys even play longer than 5 years in the NBA?

I have similar concerns as Tha Kid does, most notably what his committment to the University would be and how long he would stay here.  With that said, its friggin' BOB KNIGHT.  Gotta make the call and put him towards the top of the list!!

Allen Henderson had a cup of coffee.  I think kids would love to learn from Knight. Just listen to him talk about hoops on tv. The guy knows more about basketball than most .   Its a pipe dream for sure.

I love to see his reaction when Evans tries to go coast to coast and dribbles it off his foot.

Would be a huge mistake.  Instant gratification, similar talent players to the ones we have now, just playing awesome under Knight, 3 years he leaves, new coach comes in, we're still not getting top talent, and now we don't have Knight, and everything is bad again.

I was actually think zero.

Bring him here, and who cares if the "girls" go to Uconn and Villanova for the prettier facilities?
He'll win despite it. I also like that he screams at his players—and he knows when to.

Our guys have been coddled like children.

Fair enough...think these kids could handle it after eating bon bons and sipping pina coladas in lawn chairs with Norm during practice?

I just don't think Knight would deal with NY media well at all and his dealing with media would become a side show to the coaching.

Mad respct fo Coach Knight.

But right now I'd rather have Pat.

I've said it before....  Some of you guys have been jaded by losing for so long.  We might, as well hire John Wooden or Dean Smith for that matter.

The Johnnies are at a very, critical position concerning their men's basketball program.  Knight will coach his teams better, but you'll be tired of him after he can't seal the deal with blue-chippers and when he gets his clock cleaned in the 1st round of the NCAA tournament.

Besides, how long will he coach?  He'd be a stop-gap coach and we'll be looking for another coach within 3 seasons.

I'll pass.

I agree with Choz.  Although it was against Seton Hall's "defense", Texas Tech looked like a very well coached offensive team last night.  I don't think Bob Knight would work out well at this point.

looking at rivals, it seems his only good recruiting class at texas tech was 05...that being said, the guy can coach, and beggars cant be choosers...if hes interested at all we hire him and start a search for his replacement right away to be brought in as an assistant and to learn under him for a few years and recruit...one guy i really wouldn't mind seeing as an assistant on this team, and im sure im not alone on this one, jared grasso...guys recruited so well for fordham considering they are probably the worst team in the country now 3 yrs running...if fordham doesn't name him as the permanent head coach he'd be a great guy to bring in and have learn under knight...local guy, def very loyal, and might be hard to break him from fordham but if he doesn't get that job this would be a great opportunity...maybe some of you think that would be stupid, but hey, at least im being realistic and not throwing out billy donovan for discussion
