Great effort!

Nice job by the team tonight.  They withstood the ridiculous outside shooting in the 1st half and played tough D the whole 2nd half.  Tough way to lose.  Was hoping Mase could go out the hero in his hometown.

They withstood wide open three pointers. If they played a serious man to man to man defense like teams of old, we'd have won by 25.

I remember the last time we played Memphis. Our defense ate them alive. Penny was nothing.

They played their guts out tha kid. I'm disappointed as the next guy but I'm proud of our guys effort tonight. Seriously we could have looked like Seton Hall out there but we didn't we battled back and fought. Do I agree with all the rotations, plays called, etc. No! That shouldn't surprise anyone but I was generally pleased in the way we played.

For real the fans at Memphis were great. They put 11k in the seats and they stood up anytime we cut the lead to one possession. They were a great 6th man.

My comment is not that the kids didn't give a great effort.  They always try their hardest.  My comment is, the effort resulted in a loss to Memphis.  It's not the players' fault - it's the coach's fault.

With a real coach, these players make the NCAA.  So sure, the kids tried hard.

I'm sorry but I don't think that deserves much praise.  They get scholarships to try hard.  I love basketball and I give 120% everytime I take the court.  I know you did the same in intramurals, Dave.  They SHOULD be trying hard.

This is a game we win by 10 next year with any of a whole host of coaches.  I'm excited for then.

I can't applaud effort?  Not every slightly positive post is an effort to keep Norm as coach.

The kids played hard and the game was exciting.  I thought he coached the kids well tonight.  All the complaints about no halftime adjustments...well we had some tonight and they worked.

Obviously this program is not where any of us want it to be.  Norm should be let go.  But it was a heartbreaking loss tonight and IMHO effort is not a given.  The kids played hard and deserve to be applauded.

A heartbreaking loss was a loss to Marquette.  This was the NIT - I don't think you could sell anyone on it being "heartbreaking" for anyone except Norm Roberts and Anthony Mason Jr.  And Mase was the only reason I was slightly conflicted.  Norm gets paid to do this, and will get paid elsewhere.  He'll get another shot.  Hopefully Mase gets his in Europe.

I usually post when i get an opportunity in the game chats and everyone there knows I want Norm gone like everyone else.  But i want to make this post abt the players..........

I read these boards all the time and have seen people call the players losers for trying to save the coaches job.  Sometimes you have to put yourself in in the players shoes.  The loser comment never sat well with me b/c i never believed it to be the truth.  Tonight i wanted to see how they would show up and they proved me right.

Talent doesnt represent heart.  They played great tonight withstood an barrage in the 1st half, could have called it a season like Seton Hall and to an extent Uconn and basically all i want to say is the loser comments couldnt be further from the truth.

BTW...3 random points

Anyone Criticizing Mason didnt watch the game.  Not many Kids have the balls to shoot that shot to tie the game up from that far outside the 3pt line.

Thought the Memphis kid traveled when he got the ball before he drove

Memphis has awesome fans...Before the game got tipped off i thought what abt this Coach and wondered if he really wanted to be challenged by UAB and UTEP every year.  As soon as the game started i realized there was no chance b/c of that atmosphere.  NYC is great, The Big east conference is great, an overrated history is OK, but we have no fan base and facilities dont help either.  If you can see this from a fans point of view it should be obvious from a recruits point of view.
