(Vecsey tells) Johhnies, get Jax! [NY Post]
« on: March 19, 2010, 08:46:10 AM »
Should St. John's spike Norm Roberts, it's unfathomable the university would contact or consider anyone without first feeling out Mark Jackson. Yet, supposedly, Virginia Tech's Seth Greenberg already is the leading candidate for a coaching seat that's still occupied.

No disrespect to the Plainview, L.I., product, but how can that be true?

What makes anyone think Greenberg can convince local blue-chippers to stay home or lure out-of-towners to Union Turnpike, which doesn't even boast a nearby subway stop?

He may be the greatest coach who ever lived, but if his prospective hiring doesn't grab someone as impressionable as me, why would street-wise kids find him magnetizing?

Do these people follow college ball?  Or do they look at life through the rosy-colored glasses of their grainy game tapes?  How is Vescey in any way close to the mindset of "street-wise kids"?

Terrible article.  If your going to discredit Greenberg, don't do it to promote Mark jackson.  pure insanity.

I'm not sure why everyone is hating on Mark Jackson as a candidate for the job.  I understand he has no coaching experience but he was one hell of a player and the coach on the floor. I also understand he would have to learn the ropes in recruiting but that's what good assistant coaches are for.  I'm in no way saying Mark Jackson is who I would hire or that he is even in my top 5 candidates but damn give the guy some respect I think he will make a great coach someday.  Maybe this isn't the right situation for him but some make it seem like this guy would be completely lost coaching a team.

Good post.  i agree with you. Problem is, if Jackson pulls a Drexler here, the program is done.  Too risky for us right now.  It could work great too.  I have a ton of respect for Mark Jackson but i don't think this is the right timing is all.

Horrible idea. The huge upside garbage has got to stop. If Greenberg is the closest thing they can get to a true home run, then so be it.
