this should have never been in the papers. seriously

Why not? It's these jerks sending kids to Pittsburgh, West Virginia and who knows where else. If they're going to stand in our way, let's get it out in the open.

they pulling that ****, maybe it's time to get the NCAA involved.

Didnt the NCAA get involved with UCOnn and the Josh Nochimson deal? That was swept under the carpet

St Johns needs to start bending the rules? I guess we haven't been greasing these guys like West Virginia, Nova, Pitt and others have been.

Well for instance I see UL alumni all the time at IS8 but I sure as hell don't see any St. John's people in the building. They talk to recruits after games and show interest in the kids. They aren't breaking any rules but they certainly trying to be a slight influence on the kid and are acting as a representative of one university which I would consider to be bending the rules.

Also this is a great gesture to AAU teams whether this holds any weight what so ever at least they know we're reaching out to them.

im telling u as a aau guy this is giving us way to much power. i think the power should be split between us and the high school coaches, and notice nothing was mentioned about them. this is gonna give the wrong aau guys the idea that there kids is better than what they think they are. it can get ugly. but this is only my opinion. i mean its smart to talk to gary charles and lets say mo hicks and even tiny because lets face it they have the top players in ny. not knocking kimani they have been in it a little longer. but still there are others who i feel should also have their thoughts given.

Note that the AAU guys "responded overwhelmingly" to... Hewitt and Pecora.

I'm getting the feeling Paul Hewitt is our man. Been rumored for a while that Fr. Harrington is enamored w him too.  Hewitt would get nba level talent back on our team.  He's been hurt by the one and done a lot, hopefully he can mix in some 3 and 4 year players and take us far into the ncaa.

TOTALLY AGREE

i feel the same way. i get the feeling hewitt is going to be the next coach. i just wonder how his buyout agreement is gunna play out.

This may be a dumb question, but is there a buyout if he leaves on his own?

Because there is so much money involved, no one will leave on their own and not collect the money. They can negotiate a different price if both parties agree that they should part ways.  If he was going to just walk away, The new team , St.John's in this case, would have to offer Hewitt incentive enough to walk away from a buyout.
I'm just guessing here, for the most part.  Not sure if this makes sense or not.  I'm no expert on contract law,  Tha Kid?

OK - Hewitt is contractually obligated to be the coach of Georgia Tech unless he pays a $4.2 million to TECH to buy himself out of the contract.  The sides can certainly agree on a new buy out if they want, which in this cas,e if Tech is interested in him leaving, they probably will.

So basically Hewitt + St. John's would have to come up with the money to buy him out, once a price is agreed upon (or $4.2 mil).  So in theory St. John's could pay all of it, or perhaps it will be some sort of split, but that's what the deal is.

of course it should be in the papers.  what's missing is a follow to what "bending the rules" means.  examples of how other schools bend the rules would help.  leaving that out gives the impression that bending and breaking are the same.

as far as the aau's power...gary williams of maryland has refused to play ball...and now people are calling for his head because he can no longer recruit.  this is a guy who won a national championship.  it is what it is.
