Kimani Young, the head of the talent-rich New Heights AAU program, says the next St. John's coach should also assemble many of the talented underclassmen in the New York area and make a collective pitch.
That group includes Thomas Jefferson junior guard Davontay Grace (who verbally committed to St. John's), Rice junior wing Jermaine Sanders, Boys & Girls junior guard Mike Taylor, Seton Hall Prep junior guard Sterling Gibbs, Christ the King sophomore guard Omar Calhoun, St. Peter's Prep junior guard Myles Davis, Paterson Catholic junior guard Myles Mack and junior forward Derrick Randall and St. Raymond's sophomores Nkereuwem Okoro and Daniel Dingle.
"You tell them, 'Look, it's time that St. John's is good again,'" Young said. "'We've got some momentum. You're not coming into the bottom of the Big East. This team is realistically an NCAA tournament team next year. We have nine seniors on the roster and I think we're in position to be very successful and then it's going to be riding that momentum onto the next level.'
