Hewitt

Getting Hewitt is a good move for SJU. I dont know if he should be the seond choice after Billy but the guy has made the NCAAs five out of the last ten years at G-Tech. Fans always get restless with the same guy especially if he lead them as far as he did and hasnt got back. He is a great recruiter and with 9 open scholarships we need a guy like him. Dont take what the G-Tech fans say to literally, fans are always hardest on their own coach. He could do a great job here.

Gotta love NY. The guy hasn't even interviewed yet, and he's getting killed.
Sometimes you have to wonder if the fans deserve all of the losing.

legit concerns dude, go back and read up on his accomplishments at gt...hes good, we would all be happy with the hire if nothing else works out, but hes not a sure thing

Sure thing? Billy Donovan hasn't won a tourney game in 4 years. There are NO sure things.
5 bids. One finals appearance. Take the money and run. He may not be perfect, but he'll get the top local talent to stay put. And that is more important than anything.

 We should be ecstatic that Hewitt is our next coach.  How quickly we forget that last 6 years.

no, i agree, there are no sure things, but there are top tier coaches and the hewitts of the world...donovan is a top tier coach...hes one of the best...i dont mind having hewitt become our next coach...my problem would be if we go straight from trying to lure billy donovan to paul hewitt...there are many better candidates in between that deserve to be offered

Bradley has viewed him as a whining, underachieving, incompetent. This is actually one of the more gentle pieces. He must think he's out the door.

Thad Matta took an Ohio State team without a true center — or even a real forward — and won the Big Ten; Hewitt took a team with the nation’s best complement of big men and finished seventh in the 12-team ACC. On Sunday, Matta’s team spotted Hewitt’s eight points and won by nine.

Hewitt wasn’t Chan Gailey, who was unpopular among Tech fans from the start. Hewitt was warmly received at the start and beloved after the Final Four, but there was never a follow-through to the daring deeds of 2004. It took Jacket backers a while to get impatient, but they’re there now. They’ve seen the same game lost the same way too many times over too many winters, and they’ve read about his never-ending contract and they wonder if the underachieving will ever cease.

This gifted team was Hewitt’s last best chance to persuade his doubters, and all it did was give rise to deeper doubt. If he couldn’t win big with Derrick Favors and Gani  Lawal, what will happen next season when both figure to be gone? Will it ever get better for Hewitt than this? And is 23-13 good enough?

St. John’s isn’t a better job per se, but for Hewitt in 2010 it’s a better situation. He can leave the ACC, in which he has a career record of 67-93, and try the Big East, for which he has great affection. (He was an assistant at Villanova under Steve Lappas.) He can charm the New York media, which has the reputation of being nasty but is a pushover for a return-of-the-prodigal yarn, and he’ll recruit well and have the Red Storm back in the Big Dance soon enough."

Bradley is the whining loser.  He's tried to make a name for himself by trashing Hewitt for years.

He and Cremins were both excellent recruiters for the school. As they've tried to sell the ATL for GT, one would think he'll try to sell NYC (moreso than Queens )

Gotta think salary is a big negotiation, right?  I mean 1.375 mil in Atlants has gotta be what around 1.75 to 2 mil in NYC?  Hopefully Hewitt is making them guarantee chartered flights and a feew other things to help the team too

Much better sight seeing in NYC, Atlanta only really has the Coca Cola museum and again no rednecks. Plus Hewitt would feel right at home as Tech is basically right over a highway. The Yankees and arguably the Mets are better than the Braves and the Jets are better than the Falcons. The Hawks are better than the Knicks, but then their best player will be a Knick next season. Nathan's hot dogs are much better than that famous hot dog place across from tech and Atlanta's best restaurant is Mortens which is also in NYC. Finally Ray Lewis never killed anyone in NYC!

There is no way to compare Atlanta to NY. Only people from Altanta saying stupid crap like "it's so much cheaper here" Cheaper because it's crappier. I don't believe for a second that he's happier there, than he would be here.

I hear Atlanta's not that bad; some people actually do like it!  And there are pluses - if you like lots of suburbs, a fairly bustling city, a large number of middle-class black people... not saying those are factors for Hewitt, but Atlanta is an active town (including a gay scene and nightclubs, both of which are probably not factors in Hewitt's non-coaching life).
