That was the phrase Katz used, I don't know if  he put that in. but if accurate it's a downer.

not really...everyone on this board has always thought pitino and guys like donovan wouldnt come here...only in the wake of monasch's comments have we begun to think it a possibility...but that being said, i dont think those guys would just say no without seriously thinking it over...people exaggerate, especially reporters and journalists

Damn it! I knew Donovan was highly unlikely but I thought there may have been a possibility for Pitino. You have to give credit to the guys in charge for even making the call. I think that's all we can ask for as fans.

Hewitt seems like the best option left. I'll take him.

I really never thought Pitino was in play, but I still think there is a shot at Donovan.  And, just because Katz put out that info doesn't mean there isn't a chance.

I think Katz is still assuming more than anything else at this moment.

Its been one business day since we fired Norm.  Every journalist on the planet is trying to be the first one to tell you who is and who is not going to be our coach.  I don't know for sure, but I would bet the house that Rick Pitino was not in the cards.  Do you really think we would come one coach off of a scandle and then embrace our next hire who is fresh off of cheating on his wife?  No way our Harrington would condone that.  Dick Vitale, another guy, runs his mouth saying we need "Pitino baby!" and all of sudden Andy Katz is reporting that he said no.   I spoke with an assistant a month ago who said that Norm was out at St. John's, and what Im hearing now is that if Donovan refuses, then Paul Hewitt will be our next coach.  Not a real shocker, considering Hewitt fits ALL of the criteria Monasch has stated.  They both do.  Also talked a bit about Hewitt's recruiting for next season which isn't as good usual, but he is in the mix with some of the best high school sophomores.  It will be interesting to see any surprises in the search in the coming days/weeks.

you cant imagine that donovan or pitino would come here...why would either leave what they already have?? the best coach available and to be gotten is Tubby Smith...after that you drop down a peg to hewitt, who would be hard to get..then a peg or two down to the next level of coaches that coulda woulda like seth, or mccaffrey, or Sendek..

What Monasch should do is reach out to Tubby before he goes to Auburn, or some other job that is about to open up..we get Tubby we will be dancing every year, with a shot at a ring...we cant afford another up and comer..who are you going to play for calhoun/jim b/huggy bear...or Pecora?? no brainer...throw in the same question who are you gonna play for calhoun/jim B/Huggy bear or Tubby Smith??? now you have a dog fight on your hands..we will get some kids away from those schools in our back yard..

of course he is wise arse...steve has turned down several opportunities, and has 0 interest in head coaching..but he sure did one heck of a job with harrison barnes now didnt he??? i thought he did awesome with ed davis...but he sure topped that...and he is not in the league of Tubby...neither is any other available coach on the market...name me one available coach with a better resume??? being that donovan, and pitino have taken themselves off the board?? hey steve and tubby have more ncaa championship rings than anyone left on the board...how do those apples taste?

If Tubby's interested, I'm sure they'll reach out to him.  Not denying that he'd be an excellent hire, his age notwithstanding.  As for Steve Robinson though, weren't you pumping him up for St. John's last year...

yeah tubby is 58, how many big east coaches are older?? same age as Roy, K, and Pitino is close as well..Do u want a proven winner? or a young unproven commodity??
No way Donovan is leaving florida, Hewitt will be back in the middle of the a.c.c. again next season..Seth hasnt won anything...

Steve would be a great fit for STJ..but he isnt going anywhere...he thinks UNC will make another run next season with 3 top 10 kids coming in, and he loves Harrison Barnes..But Tubby is the best available guy..best resume..runs a super clean program like Roy does..and his son is supposed to be a star on the horizon..and he has a bunch of commits that he could bring with him..like Roy lost out on Wall, and Leslie cause he doesnt deal with handlers..Tubby will lose a few here and there, but he can get kids from everywhere..not just nyc..
