I really just want them to lose already.  I even found myself rooting for UCONN the other night.  I feel like Monasch is trying to wait this whole thing out for Greenberg to finish but I can't imagine he'll wait until next week.  With that ... Let's Go URI!!

lol

I just get the feeling he wants it over with as soon as possible.  I'm not sure if he has a fear of coaches getting picked up or who knows what but I don't think he wants this to drag on.

He bought the "Spring Fever" package at Beach Bum Tanning and is afraid it'll wear off by next week. He may need to interview Frank Haith poolside in South Beach just to ensure that it won't wear off.

I think Monasch really likes Greenberg wants to talk to him but hes not going to do that while V-Tech is still playing in the NIT. One of the reasons no offer was made to Hewitt I think is that SJU wants Greenberg as much if not more than Hewitt and they want to speak with him also. I hope they lose tonight so we can start moving towards getting a new coach. I dont want to rush but this coach is going to have a ton of recruiting to do.

The sooner the better IMO..it might take a little time to put the staff together too
When you're a kid from New York and you do it in New York, that lasts forever!

Can someone just give thier opinion on Greenberg please? How is he as a recruiter, what style does he play and how well does he use the talent he has? I know Hewitt and GT pretty well but I don't know anything about Greenberg. And also if given the choice, Greenberg or Hewitt?

Thanks.

I think there are a number of threads on Greenberg's coaching - check the next page for some threads.  Greenberg is not regarded as a strong recruiter, but a decent game coach.

With our scholarship situation looming, I think you have to consider who the coach may be able to bring with him -- both recruits and current players.  Greenberg has almost all upperclassmen, while Hewitt has some SENSATIONAL frosh, soph and recruits that could follow.  Greenberg cannot even come close.  Hewitt is the type of player-coach that kid sign to play for more than actually playing at the school. I'd be shocked if a hanful didn't follow him.

Hewitt has the higher ceiling.  If he hires a great x's and o's coach, he'll be fine.  I'd expect a few quick studs to sign like Doron Lamb.

Wait.

There's no room for his players to come.  None.  Unless he wants to kick 4 players off and have a 9-man team.  That's not the way to get buy in from the guys who remain, or compete in a year that he has to show that "things are different."

What do you mean there is no room?  No coach is under any obligation to renew a scholarship.  Why would Hewitt renew a scholarship of a useless player like Rob Thomas, or guys like Sith or Roberts when they won't even be needed?

I'm not saying all those kids will follow him, but you better believe a player's coach like Hewitt will have more than his fair share of kids willing to come to STJ.

I'm sure the school will do something for Thomas and financial aid will be very kind to him without basketball.  He is useless for our next coach.  So are Stith and Roberts.

Not to mention that transfers are eligible to practice.  That nine-man roster doesn't mean much when all nine played big minutes the last year and you have 3-4 studs to practice with.  Also, there are very good walksons available.

The nine-man argument is weak to me.

Marrilac is right.  look at what Cal did to Kentucky's roster.  bye-bye pal.  You don't fit my system.  Way the game is played.

I find that pretty cold, and what Cal did was pretty extreme w/r/t roster turnover. Simply talking like the next coach will boot players seems weak to me; and why would Hewitt's guys, many of them from the Atlanta area, pick up and come to the northeast?  One or two of them might, but I think it's ridiculous to think 4 of them would.

Additionally, Cal's players were his recruits.  These players are already at GT; actual poaching of enrolled players probably won't go over well with someone - the school president, for example.

I don't have a way of saying this will or will not happen (if the coach comes here), but it seems both unseemly and fantastic in the true sense of the word.

I'm not saying that Hewitt will or should do it. Just that there is precedence for it.  Asking a couple kids to leave is not out of the ordinary.  Probably not nice, but, we've seen where nice gets you around here.
