The thing I like about Hewitt is, of course, his NY ties. I think his ceiling is WAY higher at St. John's than at Georgia Tech. Im not crazy enough to say Hewitt is the better coach, but considering all of the circumstances, could Hewitt be a better hire than Howland for St. John's at this point?
No, Howland is, without question, a better coach.
Secondarily, the long held myth about Hewitt are his "NY ties." He has recruited the NYC metro area every year since arriving in Atlanta, yet the reality is that he has never had one player from either NYC or northern NJ play for him at GT. Like Norm Roberts, he has made plenty of final lists, however.
The complaints about UCLA tend to be that they don't pay their coaches well, the facilities were subpar (which Guerrero is working to improve), the unrealistic expectations, and the fickle fanbase.
