Please get Mark Jackson
« on: March 26, 2010, 06:21:40 PM »
He may not be a great in game coach considering he doesn't have any experience, but he can definitely recruit the area. Hire him and a good in game coach as an assistant and I think he could be very successful.

How do we know he can recruit the area?

He's never coached, we have no idea if he can recruit.  I could see guys like Huggins and Calhoun coming in and saying "Hey, this guy doesn't know what he's doing, he's never held a clipboard and he's never sent a guy to the NBA.  Come play for me and you will play in the NBA."  When was the last zone he saw? How many kids honestly know about Mark Jackson too?  Kids coming out for the 2011 class were barely born when the guy was in his prime.  It's just not a good idea now, it may have been worth the risk six years ago, but this hire is just too important.

Right about now we're past the stars in Donovan and Pitino, we're past the fallback but still really good options like Hewitt and NOW we're even past the coaches that most here don't really want that much and have plenty of flaws in Skinner and Greenberg.

What's next? I think either a retread loser or an unknown/unexperienced guy looking for a chance. If it comes down to that, Jackson at least has star power and he's a big name in the area's he needs to be in for recruits.

I also think people make way too big of a deal over him having no prior experience. Is it ideal? No but some of you make it seem like managing a basketball team is a science that can only be mastered by holding a clipboard and watching someone else do it. Jackson had an up close and personal look at coaches doing this for well over a decade and he's been courtside as an analyst for how many years? If he can't figure out substitutions, how to run practices and how to draw up plays by now he has to have a severe learning disability. He's not my first choice but he's better than most of the names we're down to at this point.

We need the find the next star.
It's the only way. Has to be a young guy who's had success.

Lets go after McCaffery.  I think he's the best option left.  What has transpired over the last 24 hours is a total embarrassment.  I was in the "calm down", "relax"  mode this morning.  Not anymore.
We look like a chicken with its head cut off.  Monasch is a nice person.  He'll be the next one out the door if he doesn't strap on a pair of balls and take charge of this trainwreck.

Look at Baylor for crying out loud. Their scandal happen a year before ours.  They had  a player MURDER another with the coach trying to cover it up.  They are in the elite eight.
We a 2 bit, minor league operation.

I'm not sure if there has ever been a person go from never coaching before at any level to the Big East.  The guy would get swallowed whole by these coaches.  It would be unfair to him to put him up against Calhoun, Pitino, Huggins, Boeheim, Dixon, Wright, Coach K and JT 3 next year without any prior coaching experience.  He would get absolutely destroyed.  Next year is no time to be messing around with a guy who has never coached before.  If we are going to hire Jackson, I would prefer to have just kept Norm, and I was there chanting for him to be fired.  The novelty of a fringe NBA star from more than ten years ago would wear off pretty quickly when teams start beating us.

I'm all for Jackson, I'd get season tix.

If you don't think he would recruit the area think again.
