these NY city ties have gotten in my head the last few days....Fran can coach them up, I just hope the next coach knows how to play the game so to speak.

I still say take a chance and try for Stevens or even Scott Drew...Prob have no shot with either but who knows...Monasch and Repole want to throw around some $.

Either way I say go with a mid major coach, take a chance and try and find the next Jay Wright, Buzz Williams, or Bruce Pearl......If we lose out and its the wrong decision, we miss the tourney like we did the last 10 years.  Norm was still going to be the 14th or 15th best coach in the BE so it's not a huge loss....

Fran isnt going anywhere, we can wait.....

McCaffrey no thanks , above average coach but not what i am looking for, I would take Stevens over him.But as someone alluded to the Butler job is better than the SJU job
Attack basketball, pressure defense, 40 minutes of hell ... Early on it might be 30 minutes of hell, then 10 minutes of what the hell are you doing?"

Beggers can't be choosers.
The administration ruined this program.

They are the evil behind our demise.

Cross McCaffery off our list of candidates.  Per ZagsBlog, he's headed to Iowa.

Because St.john's is incompetent  or he knows the job is going to Lavin.  Probably both.

why incompetent?  because we didn't rush to sign some mid major coach because he was holding another offer?  i remember the last coach from that conference that EVERYONE begged FH to sign.  where's GONZO today?

i thought mccafferty could have been a decent choice...but there are equals and better out there.

The poster asked why Fran would go to Iowa.  I was responding to what i thought may be going through his head.
For the record, this coaching search has not exactly been run with pin-point precision.  Some of it is St.John's fault, some of it is the ridiculous, uninformed media.

A little disappointed in that, I would have liked to see McCaffery on St. John's sidelines.

Lavin has practically been campaigning for a Big Ten job for years on the air. I can't imagine anyone being concerned about Lavin as competition, if they actually wanted the STJ job.

One would've hoped that this gig would be more attractive than it was when our finalists were jokes six years ago, but, perhaps, the rebuilding job in 2011 creates a daunting feeling among candidates with other options.

I would have thought the prospect of building your own team from scratch would be enticing?
