Mike Dunlap Thread

Very cool to hear. NYC should have a pipeline to a foreign player or two.

Does anyone think that this year has become Dunlap's audition for a head coaching gig?  He seemed to have interviewed everywhere last year.  This may have opened even more doors for him.

He's beyond taking just any job simply for the sake of saying he's a head coach.

The Utah job would scare me in terms of losing Dunlap, but I'm 99.97 percent doubtful it opens after only a year, no matter how horrible they look.

I think the South Carolina job is Gregg Marshall's if he wants it, so a newly open Wichita State might be an appealing job for Dunlap.

Maybe Seattle, but I think Dollar is still safe.

The Portland job might be a nice look as well if it opens.

In all honesty, I think Karl would recommend Dunlap for the Nuggets gig if he ever had to step down, but that doesn't seem likely in the foreseeable future.

You think George Karl would recommend Dunlap to be the head coach of the Nuggets?     Why the hell would he do that?    Because Dunlap was an assistant for him for two years??

I think coach D is great for our program, and I wouldn't be surprised if he continued to bounce around looking for a head coaching gig.  But I doubt he finds a top job.  He simply hasn't shown himself to be a recruiter or to have enough of a personality to be the face of a university.   And in most places the basketball coach is just that.   
Plus, I can't imagine this year has done anything to shake the reputation he has as a guy whom players butt heads with. 

I think he has found a home at St. John's, but only time will tell.

and he looked so professorial last night.  reminded me of Phelan who coached Mt St Mary's.  wonder if the coaches keep the bow ties for the ND game; continuing superstition like lastyear with the sneakers??

You do realize by now that the sneakers were not continued due to superstition but rather due to coaches cancer, right?

The sneakers are worn by all teams for Coaches v. Cancer week.  We kept wearing them for superstition and comfort.  All other teams went back to their regular footwear.  Personally, I like it---as long as it is Air Force 1's and not some of the ugly crap out there.

I'm half kidding, but when he was first hired I remember Lavin saying he would recruit "coast to coast and even internationally, to bring talent to STJ".

They kept wearing them because Coach had already been diagnosed and while he didn't want to make his own situation public until after the season he wanted to keep people talking about the fight against cancer.
