When is this hire going to be confirmed? :D

The question is: when are we going to find out whether or not he's willing to come here?
I love everything I read about Dunlap. He should be a head coach somewhere. What a steal this would be.

Interesting quote by Budinger I read in the NY Times article about Dunlap.  He basically said that he really got under the the skin of all the players, but in the end they knew he was in their corner.  LOL looks like we found our "mean coach" right after we hired the nice coach.  It could be great chemistry.

From NYT article (Thamel) of 3/24/09

"...His former athletic director at Metro State, Joan McDermott, said she had not received any calls about Dunlap this year. She said he was a finalist for the California job last year and got a long look from Stanford. She says she knows what she will tell any athletic director who calls.

“He’s absolutely one of the best coaches that I’ve ever been around,” she said. McDermott added: “I know as an athletic director at those top Division I schools that sometimes it may be tough to take a chance on a guy without the big name. But he’s worth the risk. If they hired him, the rest would be history.”

[George] Karl was equally impressed, saying: “He’s the most intelligent person that has a love for the game of basketball that I’ve ever been around. His ability to analyze and articulate and figure out the problems of day-to-day basketball was incredible for me.”

Hasn't accepted a job here yet.  Hopefully he does end up here, but until he does I won't get my hopes up.  I'm hoping the staff is finalized by Friay's R/W event.

Where are we with Dunlap and Hicks? The anticipation is killing me to finally get this staff in place.

Mike Dunlap could finally be headed to St. John’s as Steve Lavin’s lead assistant for the basketball team.  Dunlap, who was Oregon’s associate head coach, was bypassed as longtime Creighton coach Dan Altman was named Monday.

Dunlap, who had also interviewed for the opening at Colorado, was offered the St. John’s several weeks ago...

That's basically all it said, it was pointless.  It finished with 1 more sentence about how we are waiting to hear from Hicks to be DOBO.

Mike Dunlap This Week?

...and now he is getting set to take a gig as an assistant to Steve Lavin at St. John's. (That hire should be made official this week.) It's a smart move on Lavin's part, but you have to wonder whether Dunlap is going to bother unpacking his bags this time.

The good news keep coming. I saw an article earlier saying that hicks was just about a done deal and could be official by the end of the week and now the same for Dunlap. The assistants we got in Hines and Chiles will be great but I think Dunlap on the X's and O's side and Hicks on the recruiting side would be huge and give us a chance to elite again.

Looks like Hicks, Dunlap and Wrobel are a done deal. Does anyone know anything about Wrobel other than that he has served in a similar role at cal the last few years. And who do we think may fill that last spot, overall this is all great news.

Excellent.  Both would be HUGE.  What a sensational stat.  Wow....well done, Lavin.

Does Dunlap have international recruiting experience?

Just a guess, but once Dunlap is hired I feel like he's going to be given tape of all our games last year and told "watch these, and come up with a plan".  Get a good evaluation of the talent and start putting your X & O magic that we've all heard about to work.

Not to discredit his international basketball experience but Australia is terrible at basketball. I'm familiar with a few teams and leagues there with some experience I had with players/agency as well as friends that live there. People there have zero interest in it.

But they do have players, and those players come to the states and are relatively competent - some of the St. Mary's guys, for example, don't look that fluid, but then some of those fellas and AJ Ogilvy are pretty damned good.  And that Ater Majok kid is an athlete (even if he obviously needs to learn more about playing basketball).

Tell that to Vanderbilt and St. Mary's.  Australia is a great place to target for rerceuits right now.

Australia has put some very productive players into the NCAA and the NBA. Bogut was a lottery pick.  That pg from St. Mary's was great last year.  The competition for these kids is minmal as well.  I read an article that said Dunlap's championship teams had several Australians at Metro.
