Pitino to STJ?
« on: January 31, 2008, 11:13:57 AM »
Found this over at redmen.com..

To all you guys hoping Pitino is short lived here. Bob Valvano said on his Radio show this morning that St John will go after Pitino hard at the end of the year. He said he expects them to put together a very lucrative deal to get him. Valvano also said he thinks Pitino will listen very close to the deal they offer.

Just a little info to get the haters off on the right foot this morning. Always great to get good news early in the morning. Always makes the day a little easier to deal with.

Personally, I hope this is true and Pitino takes the deal. I'm sure the St John's fan base would embrace Pitino and I am sure he would turn that program around. He deserves to be at a school that would appreciate him.

this would be absolutely amazing.  him or cal can turn this thing around asap.

Not worthless, but it depends on how they're drafted.  I agree, they don't hold as much weight as most people think.

draft them any way you would like, i have never seen one hold up in court...a well written one, may get you past a hearings, and rulings, but in the finality of things, they are like toilet paper..

That's nonsense.  I'll send you a whole state-by-state treatise on noncompetes if you want.  They've been held up plenty.

Happy to see that Johnny Jungle is poluted with attorneys and justices. Pitino would be encouraging but an improved offensive scheme can be instilled by any coach, well most coaches.

Thats just cruel...giving us a taste of a big time coach. won't happen. And if it does I'll eat my words. (Please God, let it happen!)

I think Pitino would love to come back to New York. I don't have any doubt about that.

The problem is you guys don't have the money. We have the most profitable program in the country. (17.1 million) We can pay him whatever it takes.

So unless he is willing to take a significant pay cut, it won't happen.

The other part is that you guys are a few years away from Big East success. I think at his age, it would be too much and probably isn't what he is looking for. We will see.

Cheers.

he's got family here on the island and a lot of other ties that can bring him back.  would be an absolute home run if the administration did the right thing by the program.
